After staying in China for 8 years, EJ recently returned back home to Ohio. Having spent a majority of his adult life in China, EJ joins us today to talk about how it feels to return home after several years overseas. From the climate, to language, to social roles, to relationships, and rules of behavior, we talk through various factors that contribute to culture shock when one moves abroad and comes back to one's home country. Having studied abroad in Europe and worked abroad in Asia for several years, Melody also shares her experiences of emotional and psychological distress when initially placed in a new environment. Victoria, having studied and working in Hong Kong for two years before returning back to Beijing, also shares the cultural challenges she faced with adjusting to the new space and environment in the city that speaks a different dialect. For anyone interested in taking that jump to work or study abroad, or considering returning back to your home country, this episode goes through all the emotions that you may deal with when experiencing culture shock, or reverse culture shock.
