AEE 2320: Don't Underestimate your English 1. underestimate under means lower, less, below. underestimate means someone will do something less well than they might do, someone is less capable. often use to talk about potential潜力 what people think others can do. eg,I underestimated her singing voice, she's powerhouse. 精力旺盛的人 动力室 发电所 i should bought more salmon三文鱼, i underestimate how much we need. 2. underplay = downplay behave in a way shows something not as important as the reality, to make something seens to be less important, it use a lot in polities. vt. 表演不充分;对……轻描淡写 n. 不充分的表演;秘密行动 vi. 表演角色不充分 eg, she trid to underplay her negative comments by drawing attention to the missteps过错 失误of her opponent 对手. driving attention away from something to distract 使转移注意力 it's what politicians do. 3. undercharge about money, they didn't charge you what you're surpose to pay, they charge less than what you should pay. vt. 充电不足;索价低于常价;弹药装填不足 n. 充电不足;低的索价;填不够量的火药 eg, She undercharged me, I'm going to tell her adjust the bill. 4. undermind to make something weaker, there could be over a long period of time, and it might be a little subtle微妙的 隐晦的 不易察觉的 below the surface not outwardly表面上 向外clear but it's happening below the surface. v. 逐渐削弱损害;故意破坏某人的形象或威信;在……下面挖,尤指从根基处损坏 it can't overmind something . eg, He didn't mean to undermind her when she was talking, she seem似乎really embarrassed. ( he challenged her in a way that kind of degraded her position in the eyes and the others) when you undermind someone you kind of poking holes挖坑 maybe you're challenging them, you're lessening减轻 变小 their status in a way.

Role play: oh no i think she undercharged us for the coffee. actually she took me she was giving us a discount because she knows our boss. nice,i always underestimate how nice people can be. it's ok, she m... to本想 underplay it, she didn't do it for attention. hey I'm sorry i didn't mean to undermind you earlier when you're sharing your opinion about our customer service line, it really is a good idea. thank Lindsay i appreciate that .

"Under" as a prefix to be a word Under means lower, below, less, but it doesn't work out as with that meaning, sometimes it's a part of the words, like "understand" 1. underestimate(less capable) Ex: I underestimate her singing voice. She is a power house. Ex: I should've brought some salmon, I underestimated how much we need. 2. underplay(to behave in a way that something as not as important as the reality) downplay: more commonly, both of them are the same. used it with politics Ex: She tried to underplay her negative comments by drawing attention to misstep her opponents. 3. undercharge(U r charged less than what u r supposed to pay by mistake.) Ex: She undercharged me. I'm going to tell her to adjust the bill.(a test someone's true honest 🤣)
