Sons should be raised in frugality and daughters in abundance. Parents who strictly hold on to this belief say a son will grow up into a responsible and solid man, whereas a daughter will grow up into an elegant lady who can resist all materialistic temptations. 

男生要穷养，女生要富养。坚信这种看法的父母认为，儿子会成长为负责靠谱的男人，女儿会成为优雅的女性，能抵挡住物质诱惑。
