Many of you may not know that actually the first movie Before Sunrise is based on the director’s true experience. In 1989, Director Richard Linklater met Amy Lehrhaup when he was visiting his sister in Philadelphia. They spent a night together that he never forgot. And since then, their encounter inspired Richard to conceive and direct Before Sunrise. Richard says he wanted to make a film about the feeling between them. But unfortunately, by the time that movie came out, Amy was dead. Unlike the first two films which are all about romance, the third film is about the main characters’ real life after getting married and having children. So it has been nine years after Jesse and Celine, the French-American couple met on a train in Vienna[vi'enə]. They now live in Paris and have their twin daughters. If you may recall, when Celine and Jesse first met back in 1995, they were in their 20s. And then nine years later, in 2004, they teamed up again for Before Sunset. That time, they were in their 30s and were more worried about careers and the future. Now in the third movie Before Midnight, they’re in their 40s. Director Richard says, "It's age appropriate for where they find themselves in life. In the first movie, they're unattached, and you see how easily they can get off a train. Now you see how difficult it is to manoeuvre through life with one other person. It's tough." They argue about many little things in Before Midnight, such as where to live, who should sacrifice for their long-distance relationship, and whether they’ve cheated on each other, etc. In the final scene, in order to make Celine happy, Jesse pretended that he traveled all the way from the future through the time machine. Dear Celiene, this young man, yes, young, and he will be your escort. God knows he has many problems, and he’s struggled his whole life connecting and being presence with those he loves the most. And for that, he’s deeply sorry. But you are his only hope. You’re just like the little girls and everybody else. You wanna live inside some fairy tale. I’m just trying to make things better here. I tell you that I love you unconditionally, I tell you that you’re beautiful...I’m trying to make you laugh. If you want true love, then this is it. This is real life. It’s not perfect, but it’s real.

A stage director Charlie and his actress wife Nicole are struggling through a divorce. It's not as simple as not being in love anymore." So when Nicole was asked to describe her husband, she says, I fell in love with him just two seconds after I met him. And I will never stop loving him. Even though it doesn’t make sense anymore. He cries easily in movies. He’s very self-sufficient. He can darn a sock, and cook himself dinner, and iron a shirt. He rarely gets defeated, which I feel like I always do. Charlie takes all of my moods steadily. He doesn’t give in to them, or make me feel bad about them...He’s very competitive. He loves being a dad. He loves all the things you’re supposed to hate, like the tantrums, the waking up at night. It’s almost annoying how much he likes it, but then it’s mostly nice...He disappears into his own world. What I love about Charlie. Charlie is undaunted. He never lets other people’s opinions, or any setbacks keep him from what he wants to do. 但Nicole喜欢的Charlie身上的点,像他从来不让别人的观点影响自己的判断,他永远不被打倒,永远淡定,当Nicole向他吐露自己的糟糕情绪的时候,Charlie也总是“takes all her moods steadily, doesn’t give in to them.” What I love about Nicole. She makes people feel comfortable about even embarrassing things. She really listens when someone is talking. Sometimes she listens too much for too long. Nicole gives great presents. She is a mother who plays, really plays. She never steps off playing, or says it’s too much. And it must be too much some of the time. She’s competitive. She’s amazing at opening jars because of her strong arms, which I’ve always found very sexy. She keeps the fridge over-full. No one is ever hungry in our house. She can drive a stick. After that movie, All Over The Girl, she could have stayed in LA and been a movie star, but she gave that up to do theater with me in New York. She’s brave. She’s Brave. 但Nicole却说,I got smaller. He didn’t see me as separate from himself. Nicole: [to Nora] In the beginning, I was the actress, the star, and that felt like something, you know. People came to see me at first, but the farther away I got from that, and the more acclaim the theater company got, I had less and less weight. I just became, “Who?” “Well, you know, the actress that was in that thing that time.” And he was the draw. And that would’ve been fine, but I got smaller. I realized I didn’t ever really come alive for myself. I was just feeding his aliveness. Nicole says to her lawyer Nora, And I was embarrassed about it in front of him, but it was also like, “Yeah, this is who I am, and this is what I’m worth.” And maybe it’s stupid, but at least it’s mine. And if he had just taken me into a big hug and said, “Baby, I’m so excited for your adventure. Of course I want you to have a piece of earth that’s yours.” Well, then, we might not be getting divorced. But he made fun of it, and was jealous like he is, and then he realized about the money. Nicole觉得自己终于找回了自己的一小片天地,she wants to have a piece of earth that’s hers. But is Charlie the only one to be blamed? I don’t think so. When Nicole explains that Charlie ruined her life, and that he tried to control her, he reminds her that she chose her life with him. You and I both know you chose this life. You wanted it until you didn’t. You liked this life until you decided you hated it. Just like what Nicole says at the beginning, ”It's not as simple as not being in love anymore." They both know they deeply love each other. But they didn’t dare to face their problems until they file a divorce, and looking for lawyers to find the best solution. Julian says, RASA stands for "Receive," which means paying attention to the person; "Appreciate," means making little noises like "hmm," "oh," "OK"; "Summarize" -- the word "so" is very important in communication; and "Ask," to ask questions afterwards. RASA is a perfect rule for a good communication: to receive, to appreciate, to summarize, and to ask.

People come up and sing it to me. It’s kind of crazy. It’s sort of a party anthem. I guess that’s where we’re coming from on this record. We just want to make people feel good. There’s a lot of heavy vibes out there — in the world and the country, for sure. Just to come out and say, “We want to make your hands clap” may be a low-brow kind of thing, but that’s what people need. They just need to have fun, and that’s where we’re coming from. Babies generally start clapping before they are one year old, but without encouragement from parents, this tends to be a behavior that isn’t often used. And it certainly is not to show appreciation. The baby may simply discovers it can make a noise with its hands and then becomes fascinated by this. Actually, Greek audiences stamped their feet rather than clapping their hands to applaud. One theory is that the tradition of clapping dates back to 1473 amid an outbreak of cholera. Slapping your hands together was a signal to those around that you were infected. Eventually it became an expression of applause. Ancient Greek audiences expressed their emotions very boldly. They would even throw stones and food at performers they didn’t like. In contrast, happy or enthusiastic crowds often showed their feelings by shouting, stamping their feet and generally doing anything that made as much noise as possible. He says, "There's a moment in the song that speaks to just an innate /ɪˈneɪt/ sense of loneliness sometimes, and you wanna have that connection, you wanna have that love in your life."

Many people believe that good sleepers always fall asleep in a flash. But actually this attitude can trigger anxiety and further delay falling asleep. It’s “perfectly normal” to lie in bed for 10 or 20 minutes before you drift off. Regularly falling asleep in a moment or two is not a sign of being a good sleeper. In fact, it may be a symptom of excessive sleepiness and an underlying sleep disorder. So first thing first, don’t freak out. Don’t force yourself to fall asleep. I think this is a very important tip as many of us are too easy to get nervous when we can’t fall asleep quickly. And also, if you really find it hard to fall asleep, jut get out of your bed. Dr. Robin says, “The best practice involves going to bed only when one is feeling sleepy and getting out of bed if sleep doesn’t arrive in more than 30 minutes. Spending stretches of time in bed while struggling to sleep negatively conditions the bed for sleeplessness, which can cause future conditioned insomnia.” [ Insomnia /ɪnˈsɑːmniə/ 失眠 ] So if you notice that you have been in bed for 30 minutes or so and nothing is working, maybe you can get out of the bed and do something else, such as writing your journal, or reading a book. But remember, stay away from all your electronics. Using electronic devices late at night is terrible for our sleep. The US National Institutes of Health says, watching TV, playing video games, using a mobile phone and social networking can make it significantly harder for you to fall and stay asleep. And if you often feel groggy after you wake up, you may not have the right amount of sleep. A sleep circle is what your brain does when you’re sleeping. Each circle lasts around 90 minutes. During this time your brain is focusing on two sleep cycle categories, rapid-eye-movement sleep and non-rapid-eye-movement sleep. So maybe you can time your alarm to go off during your lightest sleeping period. And some sleep cycle calculator apps can help you with this. Also if you need to nap during your day time, give yourself a full sleep cycle (90 minutes) can help you recover from fatigue. And many experts say that a nap lasting around 5 to 20 minutes could be beneficial as well, since the farther along you are in your sleep circle, the harder it would be for you to wake up.

An alien played by Amir loses the only device he can use to communicate with his family and go back home. His innocent nature and child-like questions force the country to re-think about the impact of religions on its people. Which God should you worship? One religion tells you to fast on Monday, another religion tells you to fast on Tuesday; one religion says go to the temple without shoes on, but another says wear shoes inside the church; one religion says eat after sunset, one says eat before sunset…it is very confusing. AK: We respect all religions. All my Hindu friends have seen the film and they didn’t find anything hurtful in it. In fact, 99 percent of the crew was Hindu. I respect everyone’s viewpoints, their feelings and their opinions. There are a lot of genuine spiritual gurus who will make you feel better. They inspire and enrich you with ideas and they are great spiritual leaders. This film does not target them. It is for those who are corrupt and are trying to take advantage of you to sell their products. To pray, talk or communicate with God and share my feelings or troubles, I don’t need a mediator. [中介物/传递者] “There are two types of God. The first one created the Universe. He is loving, forgiving宽容的, omniscient/ɑːmˈnɪʃənt/无所不知的, protective and unprejudiced无偏见的. There is another God whom People created. He is forgetful健忘的, wrathful /ˈræθfl/愤怒的, prejudiced, and might punish you if you do not believe in Him. The first God encourages love, while the other God feeds on fear.” But actually there is no one “right” path. The path is always an individual journey. We shouldn’t follow people blindly. We can decide what is right and what is wrong. So when we find something outlandish, we should raise our voice to reject it, no matter who is endorsing it. “Never compromise with what you believe in and what makes you happy, it is too valuable. If you do not compromise during your worst times when you are up against the wall, you will never ever compromise with anything in life. Always stand for what you believe in. You might not always win but the respect you will have for yourself will be greater than any possible outcome.”

The movie is based on a true story. Film producer Jonathan Cavendish made the film to honor his amazing parents. It tells the story of Jonathan’s father, Robin Cavendish, who was stricken with polio at age 28 but went on to live a rich life. And Robin’s wife is always there by his side. After Robin contracted polio, he was told by his doctors that he would live perhaps only three months. Then he was told that he would spend whatever time he had in a hospital bed. Hearing this, Robin wanted to die. But his wife told him he had to live to see their son grow up. So he went on living. His wife knew he wanted to escape from the hospital and be treated at home, and she did all she can to help him. So he left the hospital to live at home, helped develop a wheelchair with a respirator/ˈrespəreɪtər/ so he could leave the house. And he even very often traveled with his wife, Diana, and son, and lived for 36 more years. I’ve accepted the risk of dying. I don’t want to just survive. I want to truly live. When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, some day you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "no" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

The documentary is about the personal life and music career of the pop star. “As a teenager who had only been in country music, attending my very first pop awards show, somebody stood up and sent me the message: ‘You are not respected here. You shouldn’t be here on this stage.’” "When you’re living for the approval of strangers, and that is where you derive all of your joy and fulfillment, one bad thing can cause everything to crumble." “I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking(跟踪), and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry.” "I want to wear pink and tell you how I feel about politics. And I don’t think that those things have to cancel each other out." There’s always some standard of beauty that you’re not meeting. Because if you’re thin enough, then you don’t have that ass that everybody wants, but if you have enough weight on you to have an ass, then your stomach isn’t flat enough. It’s all just f***ing impossible. 背景音乐:only the young; you can't stop the girl

Put one foot in front of the other, smile and just keep on rolling. Haters are a good problem to have. Nobody hates the good ones. They hate the great ones. Be sad. Be mad. Be frustrated. Scream. Cry. Sulk. When you wake up you will think it was just a nightmare only to realize it’s all too real. Everything negative -- pressure, challenges -- is all an opportunity for me to rise. "The last time I was intimidated was when I was 6 years old in karate class. I was an orange belt and the instructor ordered me to fight a black belt who was a couple years older and a lot bigger. I was scared s--less. I mean, I was terrified and he kicked my ass. But then I realized he didn't kick my ass as bad as I thought he was going to and that there was nothing really to be afraid of. That was around the time I realized that intimidation didn't really exist if you're in the right frame of mind." I want to see if I can. I don't know if I can. I want to find out. I want to see. I'm going to do what I always do: I'm going to break it down to its smallest form, smallest detail, and go after it. Day by day, one day at a time. When you make a choice and say, 'Come hell or high water, I am going to be this,' then you should not be surprised when you are that. It should not be something that is intoxicating or out of character because you have seen this moment for so long that ... when that moment comes, of course it is here because it has been here the whole time, because it has been [in your mind] the whole time. You guys know that if you do the work, you work hard enough, dreams come true. You know that, we all know that. But hopefully what you get from tonight is that those times when you get up early and you work hard; those times when you stay up late and you work hard; those times when don’t feel like working – you’re too tired, you don’t want to push yourself – but you do it anyway. That is actually the dream. That’s the dream. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey. And if you guys can understand that, what you’ll see happen is that you won’t accomplish your dreams, your dreams won’t come true, something greater will. And if you guys can understand that, then I’m doing my job as a father.

South Korean film Parasite won four Oscars, including Best Picture. This is the first time that a non-English language film has won the top award. ”Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.” The film sets up a contrast between the unequal social classes, following the poor Kim family who live in a half-basement apartment and the fabulously wealthy Pu family who own a big house. Paul Piff said in a TED Talk that, as a person's levels of wealth increase, their feelings of compassion and empathy go down, and their feelings of entitlement, of deservingness, and their ideology of self-interest increase...Actually wealthier individuals are more likely to moralize greed being good, and that the pursuit of self-interest is favorable and moral. “The true horror and fear of Parasite isn’t just about how the present-day situation is bad but that it will only continue to get worse. That’s my own fear in my life. I’m 50 now, so I’m going to die in about 30 years. My son is 23 now. When he reaches middle age, after I die, will it get better? I don’t know. I’m not so hopeful. Still, we have to try to live happily.” Human’s greatest advances are not in its discoveries, but how those discoveries are applied to reduce inequality. Whether through democracy, strong public education, quality health care, or broad economic opportunity--reducing inequality is the highest human achievement.
