South Korean film Parasite won four Oscars, including Best Picture. This is the first time that a non-English language film has won the top award. ”Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.” The film sets up a contrast between the unequal social classes, following the poor Kim family who live in a half-basement apartment and the fabulously wealthy Pu family who own a big house. Paul Piff said in a TED Talk that, as a person's levels of wealth increase, their feelings of compassion and empathy go down, and their feelings of entitlement, of deservingness, and their ideology of self-interest increase...Actually wealthier individuals are more likely to moralize greed being good, and that the pursuit of self-interest is favorable and moral. “The true horror and fear of Parasite isn’t just about how the present-day situation is bad but that it will only continue to get worse. That’s my own fear in my life. I’m 50 now, so I’m going to die in about 30 years. My son is 23 now. When he reaches middle age, after I die, will it get better? I don’t know. I’m not so hopeful. Still, we have to try to live happily.” Human’s greatest advances are not in its discoveries, but how those discoveries are applied to reduce inequality. Whether through democracy, strong public education, quality health care, or broad economic opportunity--reducing inequality is the highest human achievement.

Life Is Beautiful is a 1997 Italian comedy-drama film directed by Roberto Benigni. The story is about a carefree Jewish book keeper named Guido starts a fairy tale life by marring a lovely woman, Dora, from a nearby city in Italy. Guido and Dora have a son and live happily together after until the occupation of Italy by German forces. Guido tells his son that the Holocaust /'hɒləkɔːst/ is a game and that the grand prize for winning is a tank. He tries to help his son to survive the horrors of a Jewish Concentration Camp. Guido is a Jewish. He is the type of person that always wants to please others and make them happy. Dora on the other hand, grew up in very different circumstances. She is from a fairly wealthy family. She is a teacher, and is already engaged to another wealthy man. Dora and I were born on the same street. We went to school together, we had the same friends. Dora is the woman of my life, and I'm the man in her life; therefore, we've decided to get married within the year. As a gentile Italian citizen, she's protected from being deported. But out of love and a desire to keep her family together, she chooses to get on the train. She’s really a powerful woman. Last night, I dreamt about you all night. We were going to the movies. You were wearing that pink suit that I really like. You're all I think about, Princess. I always think about you. Life is always beautiful, no matter it's shape or form. "Life is like the ocean. It can be calm or still, and rough or rigid, but in the end, it is always beautiful."

The sequel saw the McCallister family planning to spend Christmas in Miami, and once again, they overslept for their flight. This time, the parents managed not to forget their youngest child Kevin, however in the melee to catch their flight, Kevin accidentally boarded a flight to New York following a man who looked like his dad. Kevin was alone, again. Like in the first film, Kevin was very independent, and conquered many challenges. In the end, unexpectedly, he helped prevent two thieves from robbing a toy store. When Kevin asked Pigeon Lady why she’s always alone, she said: “The man I loved fell out of love with me. That broke my heart. When the chance to be loved came along again, I ran away from it. I stopped trusting people.” Pigeon Lady: I was afraid of getting my heart broken again. Sometimes you can trust a person, and then, when things are down, they forget about you. Maybe they're just too busy. Maybe they don't forget about you, but they forget to remember you. People don't mean to forget. My grandfather says if my head wasn't screwed on, I'd leave it on the school bus. Pigeon Lady: I'm just afraid if I do trust someone, I'll get my heart broken. Kevin McCallister: I understand. I had a nice pair of rollerblades. I was afraid to wreck them, so I kept them in a box. Do you know what happened? I outgrew them. I never wore them outside. Only in my room a few times. They're kind of the same thing. If you won't use your heart, who cares if it gets broken? If you just keep it to yourself, maybe it'll be like my rollerblades. When you do decide to try it, it won't be any good. You should take a chance. Got nothing to lose.

[ 节目全文可关注 威信号Zoey八点英语 回复 被光抓走的人 ] [ 英文参考 ] A mysterious streak of light makes many couples disappear. Some media say it was probably because those people are in true love. But what about those couples that were left? They start to question their relationships. In 1986, psychologist Robert Sternberg developed a theory that is called “The Triangular Theory of Love.” He said love is like a triangle that covers three elements: intimacy, passion, and commitment. The top vertex of the triangle is Intimacy. It refers to the feeling of attachment and closeness that can occur in relationship. The left-hand vertex of the triangle is Passion, which refers to the drives that lead to romance and physical attraction. The right-hand vertex of the triangle is Commitment. Robert said this element is vital because in the long term, it is commitment that maintains the love. 1. (Liking) The first type is Liking, which only includes intimacy. This type of love could also be friendship. A person will feel close to the other without intense passion or thoughts of commitment. 2. (Infatuated love) The second type is infatuated love. It happens only when passion is present. It is normally “love at first sight” and is highly bounded by carnal desires and nothing else. 3. (Empty love) The third type is empty love, which only has commitment but does not share intimacy and passion. For example, arranged marriages. 4. (Romantic love) The fourth type is romantic love. It is a combination of intimacy and passion. Partners are physically drawn to each other and also bonded emotionally. The only thing is, commitment is never discussed. 5. (Companionate love) This style is the combination of intimacy and commitment that sustain the relationship. An example would be a long-term marriage in which physical attraction has died down. 6. (Fatuous love) Fatuous love is the combination of passion and commitment, but without intimacy. Robert said that most of these relationships do not last a year. 7. (Complete love) And finally, the last type is complete love. Of course, it has all of the three elements: intimacy, passion, and commitment. It is the goal for most people in relationships.

A baby boy was found by a coal worker in 1900 on ocean liner. He was named Danny Boodman TD Lemon 1900 after the coal worker’s own name. He later became an accomplished pianist and lived his whole life on the Victorian-era ship, never setting foot on land. What the hell do you think about when you're playing? Where does your mind go when you hit the keys? Last night I was in a beautiful country. Women had perfume in their hair, everything glowed. It was full of tides. “He traveled. And each time he ended up some place different. In the heart of London, on a train in the middle of the country, on the edge of a giant volcano, in the biggest church in the world...He traveled.” It's like a big scream, telling you that life is immense. Once you've finally heard it, then you really know what you have to do to go on living. I can't stay here forever. The ocean would never tell me a thing. But if I get off, live on land for a couple of years, then I'll be normal, just like the others. All that city... You just couldn't see an end to it. The end! Please, could you show me where it ends?...It wasn't what I saw that stopped me, Max. It was what I didn't see. Take a piano. The keys begin, the keys end. You know there are 88 of them and no-one can tell you differently. They are not infinite, you are infinite. And on those 88 keys the music that you can make is infinite. I like that. That I can live by. But you get me up on that gangway (舷梯)and roll out a keyboard with millions of keys, and that's the truth, there's no end to them, that keyboard is infinite. But if that keyboard is infinite there's no music you can play. You're sitting on the wrong bench. That's God's piano. Did you see the streets? There were thousands of them! How do you choose just one? One woman, one house, one piece of land to call your own, one landscape to look at, one way to die. When Max asked what’s wrong with him, he simply said, I can’t help it, music makes me cry. He cried, not because the competitor’s arrogance pissed him off, but because the music touches him.

For those of you who haven’t seen this movie, it is about the story between a high-school student named Fangao and a girl named Yangcai. Fangao runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo. He quickly runs out of money and starts to look for a job. Later he finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, he meets Yangcai at a McDonald's, who possesses a strange and wonderful ability—the power to stop the rain, at least temporarily. A trolley is running down a track and is out control. If it continues on its course, it will run over five people who have been tied to the tracks. You have the chance to divert it onto another track simply by pulling a lever. If you do this, though, the tram will kill a man who happens to be standing on this other track. What should you do? The situation is the same as before: a runaway trolley threatens to kill five people. A very heavy man is sitting on a wall on a bridge spanning the track. You can stop the train by pushing him off the bridge onto the track in front of the train. He will die, but the five will be saved. There’s a few things that inspired us. I think the biggest thing was climate change. Climate change really became a huge part of our lives and we see it here. Because every summer in Japan, we always have a lot of rain and water-related disasters because of it. So, every year they’re talking about climate change and how we have to do something about it. But we also know that it’s not something that we could turn back in a few years. So it has happened. And then how do we live in this crazy world that we have created? And how do especially the young people live in this crazy world? That’s what I started thinking about when I started working on Weathering With You.
