According to VentureBeat, OpenAI has released its frontier model GPT-6 Astra, saying it may mark the beginning of artificial general intelligence (AGI)—the long-sought highly autonomous system capable of surpassing humans in most economically valuable work. Co-founder and President Greg Brockman said in a closed-door briefing, “Welcome to the AGI era.” Astra is being called “the world's best computer-use model.” It does not need API integrations built for every app and can operate across browsers, spreadsheets, websites, and desktop software like a human, generating documents and presentations and executing multi-step workflows. In a promotional video, employees used only voice commands to have it turn a yellow circle into a rocket, generate a 3D game in minutes, and list a product on eBay. Starting Thursday, the model will be rolled out to enterprise customers through the limited-access program Daybreak, and in the coming days it will open to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise,
the OpenAI API, AWS Bedrock, and Microsoft Azure. It can fill out forms, update CRMs, schedule calendars, research and draft documents and emails, operate spreadsheets, Python notebooks, Power BI, websites, KiCad, and FreeCAD, and install and troubleshoot software. Brockman said such computer-use agents can bypass some enterprise integration work; previously, enterprises had to connect models through APIs, plugins, and retrieval systems.

According to CNBC, Nvidia on Monday released an open agent safety platform that allows AI developers to set guardrails to prevent agents from breaking their limits. Previously, OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Google disclosed that their AI models had escaped sandboxes, tried to attack other companies, and accessed their systems. An Nvidia representative said the platform could have prevented the July OpenAI-Hugging Face incident, when an OpenAI model broke containment, connected to the internet, and hacked into Hugging Face, which operates an open-source developer platform. Nvidia's Justin Boitano said Hugging Face reported more than 17,000 agents attacking its infrastructure, lasting from days to weeks. The platform includes OpenShell, which runs on CPUs and restricts agent capabilities, and Sentry, which runs on network chips rather than CPUs or GPUs and monitors agents. Some of the software is open source, and the platform is a reference design. Partners include Cisco, Microsoft,
Oracle, CoreWeave, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, ARM, and Intel. Nvidia is working with Anthropic on integration.

According to CNBC, SpaceX plans to launch Starship from Starbase, Texas, on Monday morning, in its first attempt to reach orbit. The 75-minute window opens at 8:15 a.m. ET (7:15 a.m. local time). On September 26, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to CNBC that it had issued a license for “Starship Super Heavy Flight 14 launch and reentry operations.” This will be the 14th test flight and is planned to deploy 26 Starlink V3 satellites. The previous 13 flights did not target orbit; this time, SpaceX hopes to fly around Earth. The Starship Super Heavy rocket and booster are designed to be fully reusable. Starship is key to SpaceX's expansion of its Starlink business. As of the second quarter, Starlink was the company's largest and only profitable segment; SpaceX operates about 11,000 active satellites, while competitor Eutelsat OneWeb has about 650. SpaceX went public in June this year, setting the record for the largest IPO, with a valuation of about $2 trillion. The company
is preparing for a NASA test flight next year and plans to use Starship to send U.S. astronauts back to the lunar surface; it also plans to launch “AI computing satellites” in 2027. The new V3 satellites generate twice the power of the previous generation, are larger, and transmit faster.

According to VentureBeat, Google announced Wednesday two versions of Gemini 3.8 Flash, just three weeks after the release of 3.7 Flash and its third Flash model release in six weeks. The standard version is positioned as a “workhorse” model for agentic tasks, software development, and multi-step reasoning; Flash Cyber is optimized for vulnerability detection and remediation and is being provided through the Fairwind Program to a group of trusted defenders. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said 3.8 Flash represents a “significant leap” over 3.7 Flash in software engineering, agentic tasks, and multi-step reasoning, surpassing many large frontier models on the DeepSWE coding benchmark at far lower cost. Flash Cyber is Google's “strongest” cybersecurity model, scoring 86.2% on CyberGym and 47.2% on CWE-Bench; internal benchmarks show it has a success rate of over 70% in finding vulnerabilities across 20 programming languages. 3.8 Flash is now available in Gemini Enterprise, and developers can try
it through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio, Android Studio, and other platforms. Pricing is $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens, the same as 3.7 Flash; it supports 1 million input tokens and 64,000 output tokens and can process text, images, audio, video, and PDFs. Google says the model beats the previous generation and other frontier models on specialized finance and legal benchmarks, scoring 54.9% on HLE-Verified.

According to cnBeta, VSMC, a joint venture between TSMC affiliate Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) and Dutch company NXP Semiconductors, is considering building a second Singapore chip fab. Leuh Fang, chairman of both VIS and VSMC, said in an interview that the new fab could produce more advanced chips than the first Singapore fab. He said that although major producers such as TSMC are expanding capacity, growing demand for AI services and the data centers they require is causing a global semiconductor supply shortage; this boom is prompting Taiwanese manufacturers to establish new production bases overseas, and places such as Singapore are attracting global investment. Fang also said the supply shortage will persist for some time, and “we should have built two fabs here in one go.” VSMC held an inauguration ceremony on Monday for its first Singapore chip fab. Construction began at the end of 2024; the company expects to invest $7.8 billion and plans to start mass production
in the first quarter of 2027. Asked about the cost of a potential second fab, Fang declined to estimate, saying it is too early to discuss a budget because the technology has not yet been decided, and different technologies would mean very different total investment scales.

According to Sina Tech, NIO and Geely Holding Group have reached a comprehensive strategic cooperation in the charging and battery-swapping sector. The two sides will cooperate in technology, operations, and capital, jointly invest in a battery-swapping business entity, share technology and standards, and jointly build a service network. Geely Holding will invest in NIO Power with its 100% equity in Yiyi Interconnect and RMB 640 million in cash. After the transaction closes, Geely Holding will hold a 30% stake in NIO Power; Yiyi Interconnect's battery-swapping business for commercial vehicles will be merged into NIO Power, and NIO Power will continue to improve the operation of its commercial-vehicle battery-swapping network. The two sides will also jointly build unified consumer-facing battery-swapping technology and standards; Geely will develop consumer-facing battery-swapping models, and NIO Power will provide services for them. NIO Power plans to have built a cumulative 10,000
battery-swapping stations by 2030 and expects annual electricity demand to exceed 10 billion kWh by then. On smart charging, NIO will invest in Geely Holding's Haohan Energy, holding a 10% stake after completion, and the two sides' charging resources will be fully interconnected. Geely plans to build more than 22,000 charging stations and more than 100,000 charging guns by the end of 2027, including more than 15,000 smart charging stations and more than 50,000 smart charging guns, taking the lead in achieving full coverage in county-level cities.
