AEE 2340: Do You Have the Gift of Gab in English?
1. chit chat = small talk, casual conversation about unimportant topics, some peole get unpatient with chit chat, they would rather talk about something important, more quickly.
闲聊:指在日常生活中进行的轻松、随意的谈话,通常涉及一些不太重要的话题
you go to deep so fast. 你太快进入深入话题
eg, The dinner is fun, what a chit chat in laughter.
晚餐很有趣,大家谈笑风生
Tips: chit chat is not alway negative, of course it depends on who you're talking with, maybe is an interesting chit chat with certain people.
eg, The meeting went long, since there was a lot of chit chat.
I was chit chating with the lady in the park, and realized we went to the same university.
I don't usually like to chit chat.
Tips: anytime you say chit chap as a verb, basically means chating, and chating could be Politics, but chit chating means we are talking anything important. chat is light, chit chat is even lighter.
2. chat = talk
eg, The happy hour yesterday was great, i chatted pretty much with everyone there.
There were a lot of chating in the meeting.
I hear a lot of chating, can we keep it down?
Tips: chat as a none more about online conversation
eg, Did you see the messages in the group chat?
3. chatter 唠叨 喋喋不休
eg, Jane's constant chatter was beginning to annoy him.
The guests engaged in superficial表面的 肤浅的 chatter. 客人闲聊起来
4. gab 闲聊 空谈 = gossip
you could gabing and gossiping at the same time.
eg, She was gabing in the park when she got a call. ( she was just talk)
I have a friend that's fun to gab with. (might mean gossip, but it can be anything)
5. the gift of gab能说会道 = strong socially
means someone likes to talk, they're very good at making conversation, it's a great compliment if someone tells me that i have gift of gab.
eg, I'm not worry about him meeting my friends, he's the gift of gab so i think he can be fine.
A good lawer / reporter记者has the gift of gab.

4 ways to talk about talking with others in English
chitchat(small talk, casual conversation, used both as a noun and a verb)
Ex: The dinner was fine. Let's have a chitchat and laughter.
Ex: The meeting went long since there was a lot of chitchat.
Ex: I was chitchating with the lady at the park and realized we went the same university.
Tips: "chitchating" or "chatting" is ok when it's used as a verb. chitchating is even lighter and has nothing to do with "politics"

chat
👏Tips: It functions a little differently used as a noun.
Ex: The happy hour yesterday was great. I Chatted pretty much everyone there.(means I talked to everyone there)
Ex: I hear a lot of chatting. can we keep it down?
chatter(There are more like signals, information and activity)
👏Tips: we don't use "chat" the same way as "chitchat" when used as a noun. It's more like "online conversation"
Ex: Did you see the message in the group chat?

👋Most of these phrases from today are really about superficial conversations not deep ones.
