AEE 2330: Too or Really? Avoid this Common English Grammar Mistake 1. don't use too to express positive emotion. eg, i was too passionate about math so i study the mathamatics class in school. ( native speakers will be confused, are you hate math or not ?) the right expression: i was really / extreamly passionate about math so i study the mathamatics class in school. 2. use too to mean something negative, something is more than it's needed. eg, i was too tired to study so i went to bad. i was too bored with math so i didn't study math. i got a bit too angry when that happened. ( there's too much of anger ) 3. some chunks we do use too to mean very / really but only for negative things that you can't be too much of. and usually with 'too' there's some kind of result. eg, I'm too confused by these instructions, I'm just going to YouTube and Google how to do this. informal options to replace very / really to express positive emotions. 1. surper ( more emotion than very/really) eg, he was super passionate about literature so he study the comparative literature比较文学. 2. crazy ( much more informal than super ) eg, it's crazy late by the time we left. ( extreamly late, but much more informal) formal options to replace very / really to express positive emotions. 1. extreamly eg, we were extreamly pleased to have you join in us. 2. amazingly eg, they are amazingly good at stand organized. chunks we hear to express someone's story is awsome / very cool : too good, too cool, too fun, too funny. eg, so then he felt right in front of me. what, that's crazy. i know it was nuts 发疯的 发狂的. oh man, too funny. ( commenting the story)

Avoid making mistakes of "too adj" use "really or super excited" instead of "too excited" "too…" is an adverb to mean that something is more than what is needed good or possible. ⏱️very or really for negative things you can be too much of. Ex: I got a big too angry when that happened.(There's too much of angry) 👏 super excited( pay attention to your tone) 👏 crazy …(inform and extremely …) Ex: It was crazy late by the time we left.(extremely late but inform) Formal situations: way, totally, extremely Ex: I'm extremely pleased to have you to join us.(not using super for this situation) 👏Tips: too cool, good, fun, funny …to express praise and as a kind of commentary.(make sense for here) Role Play: A: So then he fell right in front of me. B: Oh, thats crazy. A: I know it was knots B: Too funny.(commenting on my story)
