AEE 2315: Who Asked You? Rude Phrases to Avoid in English
do you ever worry that you're saying something rude to someone in English ?
1. who asked you ?
this is implying that someone gave an unwanted opinion or should not have spoken. this is very rude like there's no way that you can said this. it's always rude . sending this message i don't care about your opinion, noboday ask for it.
eg, i think you should break up with this guy.
who asked you ?
i don't think you should take that job.
who asked you ?
2. mind your own business.
say it in a playful way that's acceptable, but still avoid using it. always impolite .
this is a tipical way典型的方式 to break a connection, i don't care what you mean.
eg, you really should test your drive, you know ?
mind your own business.
3. figure it out.
to tell someone to do something on their own without asking for help.
but there's a sort of another meaning that we use which is more polite, "i need to figure it out ", there's no rudeness, means i need to discover发现 找到 查明 how to do something.
when you say something to end a conversation, that it can be very rude.
eg, i don't know what to do.
you need to figure it out. ( with zero empathy同情 共鸣/ understanding, zero trying to help, let's figure it out together, or giving any kind of grace.)
this instruction用法说明 吩咐 指示 is just don't make any sense.
i don't know, figure it out.
even if you're trying to be sarcastic or use sarcastic internation 国际间的, these phrases will still be rude.
