insert /ɪnˈsɜːrt/ v. 插入，塞

这个单词是「塞」很直译的表达，比如说把硬币塞到机器里，insert the coin into themachine, 取钱的时候插入银行卡，insert the credit card.

If youor your child has inserted a foreign object in your rectum, however, removingit yourself could cause permanent damage. 

如果你或者你的小孩把异物塞到了直肠里，自己取出可能会导致永久性伤害。

put in(to) 放进去

这个是更加口语化的表达，把东西放进去，介词用 in 或者 into 都可以。

I saw mybrother putting rice, marbles and some other stuff into his nose and ear.

我看过我哥哥把米饭、弹珠还有其他的东西塞到他的鼻子还有耳朵里。
