On July 25th student protesters won the resignation of education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, achieving the movement’s core demand. Just a month earlier he had dismissed them as a “b-team of disruptive elements”. But in a social-media statement, the close ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was stepping down so students could “devote their time to studies and focus on building their careers”.
