Rest in Peace I’ve been seeing videos of people coming out to the Grafton Street to remember Glen Hansard, the same street where he used to busk and where Once was filmed. Rest in Peace. I really like his music movies actually talked about them on my podcast years ago. And what a lot of people don’t know is that Once actually came out of Glen’s music. The director, John Carney, used to play bass in the band Glen founded. They had known each other for decades, and they’d always had the idea of making a movie about street musicians in Dublin. Before the movie was officially filmed, Glen had already written what would later become the movie’s signature song, Falling Slowly. And later, a lot of the emotions and the story itself grew around the music. Originally, the plan was to have a professional actor play the male lead. But Carney decided to have Glen play the role himself. So a real street musician ended up playing a street musician. The whole movie was made for only about $150,000, and they shot it in just 17 days. There were no fancy sets, and a lot of it was filmed in the same place where Glen used to busk for years. No one expected the movie to become such a hit. And Falling Slowly went on to win the Oscar. Glen’s real life also had a lot in common with the character. He left school when he was 13 and spent years making a living by playing music on the streets of Dublin. He spent his whole life making Irish folk music, keeping it simple and honest. Maybe that’s why his music is so moving. There’s a line from Falling Slowly: “Falling slowly, sing your melody, I’ll sing along.” Yes. You left your melody with us. We’ll keep listening. Rest in Peace, Glen. 【小红书/视频号等平台Zoey朱珠也能找到我~】

看世界杯&电影《传奇的诞生》有感:足球没有标准答案,寻找自己的Ginga!

"If you want to play professionally, you can't be ashamed of who you are." 英文文本参考: Watching the World Cup recently, I was really inspired by Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha and Haaland, who are fighting for their countries. It reminded me of a line from the movie Pelé: Birth of a Legend. If you wanna play professionally, you can’t be ashamed of who you are. Vozinha was 40 years old when he finally stepped onto the World Cup stage for the first time. After the match, he ran into the stands and hugged his mom. That touching moment reminded me of Pelé. As a boy from a Brazilian slum, he reached a bigger stage also because of the support from his family. When Pelé was young, he didn’t have a real football, so he filled socks with newspapers. Even mangoes became his training balls. No football boots? He played barefoot. No football field? He trained on dirt roads.By today’s standards, those were far from proper training conditions. But it was exactly in that environment, with his determination, that he developed his own way of playing football. That’s why the movie highlights the Brazilian football tradition called Ginga. When most people questioned this style and wanted him to change, Pelé stayed with it.Many people see Ginga as just a skill. But for Pelé, it was much more than that. It was a way to turn his environment into an advantage, and a way to express who he was.And when I look at Cape Verde, I see something similar.Today, Cape Verde is a middle-income country. But for a long time, they didn’t even have a standard international football stadium. The national team had to play home games abroad, until China helped build the national stadium.Without expensive facilities, they relied on teamwork.Without superstar players, they relied on everyone’s contribution. In a way, this is Cape Verde’s own Ginga.Vozinha’s story shows this even more.He was turned down by European youth teams many times as a teenager due to his small frame and only went pro at 25. He was always a little behind that timeline. But he kept moving forward in his own way.Haaland’s story is another example. His talent is undeniable. He could have chosen a stronger football nation. But he chose Norway.Because for him, representing his own country is also part of the dream. He didn’t choose the easiest path. He chose the one that felt true to him. When he celebrates his goals with his meditation pose, I feel he knows clearly what he is chasing.Maybe that’s what makes football so fascinating. It has systems and a common path. But everyone can still find their own Ginga.
