Omer Ozden moved to China in 1991 on scholarship to study Mandarin, where by 1996, he had established two start-ups in Zhongguancun, China's Silicon Valley in Beijing. He founded RockTree Capital in 2010 to focus on top tier investments into projects at the nexus of the two largest markets: Greater China and North America. Omer has worked with some of the leading innovators on the planet, and is International Partner of ZhenFund, China's leading Angel investment fund with regular rankings on Forbes Midas List. Mr. Ozden is also co-founder and International Expansion Partner of UCommune, China's largest co-working company with over 220 locations globally, and was formerly GP at Beijing Capital Growth Fund, a joint venture between the Beijing Municipal Government and JPMorgan's OEP.
Omer focuses on early-stage investments into top tier Western blockchain projects and accelerating their growth utilizing RockTree's deep resources in China, such as dYdX, The Graph, ChainLink, Fantom and Pocket Network. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and has invested in some of China's leading high growth technology ventures such as Perfect Diary, 17Dzuoye and SnowPlus.
Mr. Ozden has a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and a LLB and Juris Doctor, and prior to RockTree was an international securities lawyer and former partner with the international firm Baker & McKenzie LLP in New York, and also with the Silicon Valley firm of Morrison & Foerster LLP in their Hong Kong office. His career spans more than 575 deals totaling over $40 Billion including venture capital investments, initial public offerings and other transactions for such companies as NetEase, Alibaba, Baidu, New Oriental and Facebook.
Mr. Ozden was on the legal team that invented the Variable Interest Entity (VIE) structure, negotiating between the United States SEC and China's Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), which opened up China's internet industry to foreign investment and overseas public listings on NYSE and Nasdaq.
