Cat 🐱🐱🐱🐱 Are there a lot of buildings where you live? Oh, absolutely. My neighborhood is packed with high-rises—residential buildings, office blocks, shopping malls, that sort of thing. But it's not all concrete; there are plenty of houses too, since the area's a mix of middle-class and higher-income residents. What I love most is that despite the buildings, there's loads of greenery—trees, shrubs, small gardens. It never feels like a concrete jungle, which is why I've stuck around for so long in the area. * packed with:挤满了 * residential buildings:住宅楼 * that sort of thing:诸如此类的东西 * concrete:混凝土 * a mix of:由…… 混合组成 * residents:居民 * greenery:绿化 * a concrete jungle:钢筋水泥森林 * stuck around:待在(某地) What kind of architecture do you like the most? Tough to pick, but I'm really drawn to traditional Chinese architecture. Just recently, I visited a valley in Jiangxi Province where all the buildings have that classic style. The exteriors are beautiful—curved tile roofs, wooden lattice windows that you push open outward—even though the interiors are modern. Walking through them, it felt like stepping into a scene from a martial arts movie. It was absolutely stunning; there's something so timeless about that design. * Tough to pick :很难选 * drawn to :被…… Where would you live, if you could live in any home in the world? I'd love a house in the hills, overlooking a valley. Growing up in a mountainous area, I miss waking up to those views—watching the seasons change from my window, seeing snow dust the peaks in winter or leaves turn gold in autumn. It'd be perfect to have easy access to the woods too, where I could go for walks, gather firewood, or even pick wild mushrooms in season. Being that close to nature just feels right for me. * overlooking:俯瞰;眺望 * mountainous area:山区 * dust(此处为动词):覆盖;撒满(薄尘等) * snow dust the peaks:雪覆盖山峰(像撒了一层薄雪) * have easy access to:方便到达 * gather firewood:拾柴火 * in season:(水果、蔬菜等)当季;时令 Is architecture an important part of a city's identity? Definitely. A city's skyline and iconic buildings basically define it I think. Like when you see the Canton Tower, you instantly think of Guangzhou. Or the Temple of Heaven or CCTV Headquarters—they're tied to Beijing's identity. These structures tell a story about the city's history, culture, or even its modern aspirations. So yeah, architecture is a huge part of what makes a city unique I believe. * skyline :天际线 * iconic buildings :标志性建筑 * define :界定;定义 * the Canton Tower :广州塔 * the Temple of Heaven :天坛 * CCTV Headquarters :中央电视台总部大楼 * tied to :与……

Cat 🐱🐱🐱🐱 Do you like driving? Well, I think I would, but to be honest, I haven't got my driver's license yet. Learning to drive has been on my to-do list for years, but due to various circumstances, it has been constantly deprioritized. I still vividly recall a friend of mine once saying that driving has expanded her 'life radius', and I am eager to experience the same freedom and convenience for myself. Where was the last place you drove? As I just mentioned, I don't drive, so I haven't driven anywhere. However, if I had a car, I would love to take a road trip to the western part of Sichuan province with one or two friends. The scenery there is absolutely breathtaking, and driving would allow us to explore the area at our own pace, which is much more convenient than relying on public transportation. In saying that, I have been on road trips and I enjoyed them very much. * take a road trip to the western part of Sichuan province:去川西公路旅行 * scenery:风景 * breathtaking:令人惊叹的 * at our own pace:按自己的节奏 * relying on:依赖;依靠 * In saying that:话虽如此 (用于补充说明,先提出一种情况,接着用此短语引出相关补充内容) Where do you like to sit in a car? I always prefer the front passenger seat because it provides an unobstructed view of the road ahead. There's something about being in that seat that makes me feel more connected to the journey and less claustrophobic. And when I'm on a road trip with a friend to some remote, off-the-beaten-path destinations, I love to kick back, put my feet up, and enjoy the passing scenery while listening to our favorite music. It's such a relaxing and enjoyable experience. * front passenger seat:副驾驶座 * unobstructed view of the road ahead:前方道路的无遮挡视野 * something about being in that seat that makes me feel:坐在那个座位上产生的那种让我有…… 感觉 (“something about...that...” 是一种常用表达 ) * more connected to the journey:与旅途更有联结感 * less claustrophobic:没那么幽闭恐惧 * remote, off-the-beaten-path destinations:偏远、小众的目的地 * kick back: 放松休息 * put my feet up:把脚搭起来 * the passing scenery:沿途的风景 Is driving common in your country? Yes, sure, driving of course is very common in China. The average family owns a car, and nowadays, electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular and cheaper and I think especially for city dwellers, they are becoming a must-have. While the public transportation system in China is well-developed and efficient, people still want the freedom to go where they want, especially on the weekends when many people will go on a short trip. Having a car offers a more flexible and convenient way to get around, particularly when traveling to places that are not easily accessible by public transport. * very common:很普遍 * The average family owns a car:普通家庭都有汽车 * electric vehicles:电动汽车 * city dwellers:城市居民 * a must-have:必备品 * well-developed:完善 * go on a short trip:进行一次短途旅行 * more flexible and convenient way to get around:更灵活便捷的出行方式 * not easily accessible:不易到达的 、交通不便抵达的 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 顺便打个广告: 欢迎朋友们加入我的【知识星球】 里面有10万字的雅思口语书,内容梗概: (1) 78个Part 1话题语料 (2) 55个Part 3话题语料 (3) 40个Part 2话题语料 (4) 雅思口语高分tips (5) 雅思口语高分词汇表达 这本口语书是PDF的,放在了我的知识星球,星球里除了这本书,还有雅思听说读写、语法基础知识等内容。

Do you prefer to drink coffee or tea? Well, I have to say I like both, but it depends on the time of day and the occasion, but overall I have a preference for coffee. In the mornings, I can't start my day without a cup of coffee to shake off the grogginess. And sometimes, I'll have another one around noon to keep me energized for the afternoon. It's almost like a necessity for me to get through the day. Tea, on the other hand, is more for social situations. For example, when I'm meeting elders or family members who are into tea, I'll go for a cup of tea to fit in. * but overall:但总体而言 * I have a preference for:我更喜欢 * shake off the grogginess:摆脱昏昏沉沉的状态 * keep me energized:让我保持精力充沛 * a necessity:一种必需品 * get through the day:度过一天 * social situations:社交场合 * who are into tea:喜欢喝茶 * to fit in:融入;合群 2. Is coffee a popular drink in your country? Absolutely! Coffee has been gaining a lot of popularity, especially among the younger generation over the past decade or so. You can see it everywhere – from big coffee chains to cute little boutique coffee shops popping up in cities of all sizes. These coffee shops have become more than just places to grab a drink; they're like social hubs where young people hang out, chat, work on their laptops, or just relax with a book. So yeah, coffee is definitely a big hit here. * gaining a lot of popularity:大受欢迎 * over the past decade or so:在过去十年左右 * big coffee chains:大型咖啡连锁店 * boutique coffee shops:精品咖啡店 * popping up:突然出现 * cities of all sizes:各种规模的城市 * grab a drink:买杯饮料 * social hubs:社交中心 * a big hit:非常受欢迎的事物 3. How do you like to drink coffee? I'm not quite sure what you mean by “how do I like”, but when I'm at home, I enjoy making my own coffee. I usually go for a hot cup, made from ground coffee, with a splash of milk, giving it a smooth and creamy taste. But when I'm out at a coffee shop or something like that, I’ll probably opt for an iced mocha with a dollop of cream on top – it's sweet and refreshing. Sometimes though, I'll switch it up and get a cappuccino for a change of pace. * I'm not quite sure what you mean by:我不太确定你说的……是什么意思 * go for a hot cup:来一杯热的 * ground coffee:研磨咖啡 * a splash of milk:一点牛奶 * smooth and creamy taste:顺滑醇厚的口感 * opt for an iced mocha:选择冰摩卡 * a dollop of cream:一团奶油 * sweet and refreshing:香甜清爽 * switch it up:换一下 * cappuccino:卡布奇诺 * a change of pace:改变一下节奏 4. When was the last time you had some coffee? Oh, actually, I just had some this morning. As I said before, it's a must-have for me to kick-start my day. I brewed a cup at home and it really helped me feel more alert and ready to tackle the day. I might have another cup later this afternoon, but I'll make sure not to have it too late, otherwise, I'll be wide awake all night, which is the last thing I want.

Cat 🐱🐱🐱🐱 Describe a helpful person. You can say: Who the person is How you know them What they do to help people And say when they help you I'd like to talk about my best friend in Singapore, whose name is Andrew. He's an incredibly helpful person, and I'm truly fortunate to have him in my life. We first met when I was studying in Singapore. Initially, we were just classmates, but we really got to know each other through a mutual friend. Andrew is a local, and he has this amazing knack for making everyone around him feel welcome and at ease. As a native, he's always willing to assist international students like me. He often takes the initiative to show new arrivals around the city, whether it's introducing us to the “only-locals-known” type of local eateries or guiding us to the most interesting spots to chill. He seems to know every tree on the island, as I used to joke. He's also generous with sharing insights about the local culture. Whenever any of us have questions about traditions, festivals, or the way of life in Singapore, he's the go-to person. In the academic realm, he's equally helpful. We often have in-depth discussions about schoolwork. He offers unique perspectives that help me see things from a different angle. He has actually helped me on countless occasions, and the most recent one is when I needed his help to collect my graduation gown. There was a specific date and location in Singapore where I was supposed to pick it up, but unfortunately, I couldn't be there on that day. When I shared my dilemma with Andrew, he offered to help without a moment's hesitation. He made the effort to go to the designated time and place to collect the gown for me. I was extremely grateful, not just for this particular favor, but for everything he's done for me. Knowing Andrew has been such a blessing, and I value our friendship. He's the kind of person who makes a positive impact on everyone around him, and I feel lucky to call him my best friend.

Cat 🐱🐱🐱🐱 Describe a TV series you like. You should say: What is the name of the TV series When you watched it What it is about And explain why you like it The TV series I'd like to talk about is "Ugly Betty". I started watching it quite recently, so I'm still only in the middle of it because it has a fair number of seasons. The story of "Ugly Betty" centers around Betty, a career-oriented girl. Betty is not your typical, glamorous TV protagonist. She has a rather plain appearance, but what sets her apart from others is her sharp brain. She lands a job in a high-fashion magazine, which is like a shark tank filled with ruthless and stylish people. It's a fashion world where looks seem to matter most, and Betty stands out like a sore thumb. However, instead of being intimidated, she uses her intelligence, determination, and kind heart to overcome all the challenges at work. Whether it's dealing with backstabbing colleagues or unrealistic deadlines, Betty always manages to find a way to prove herself. I'm drawn to this show for several reasons. Firstly, Betty is an inspiring character. She reminds me a lot of myself and many other girls who may not be blessed with conventional good looks but still have dreams. Just like Betty, we have the same burning desire to succeed. Betty's journey shows that as long as one has the will and the wits, they can overcome obstacles. Plus the show doesn't just focus on Betty's career struggles. It also presents her personal life, including her relationships with her family and friends. These sub-plots add a lot of depth and warmth to the story, making it feel more relatable. Finally, the humor in "Ugly Betty" is on point. It has this light-hearted and satirical take on the fashion industry, which makes it both entertaining and thought-provoking. All in all, "Ugly Betty" is not just a TV series; it's a source of motivation and a very entertaining show to boot. I can't wait to finish watching the rest of the seasons to see how Betty's story unfolds. * a fair number of 相当多的 * centers around 围绕…… 展开 * career-oriented 以事业为导向的;注重职业发展的 * glamorous 富有魅力的;迷人的 * rather plain appearance 相当普通的长相 * what sets her apart from others 她与他人不同的是 * sharp brain 敏锐的头脑 * lands a job 找到一份工作 * shark tank 充满竞争、残酷的环境 * ruthless 冷酷无情的;残忍的 * where looks seem to matter most 在这个(时尚圈)地方外表似乎是最重要的 * stands out like a sore thumb 显得格格不入;格外显眼 * being intimidated 被吓到;intimidate(恐吓、威胁 ) * backstabbing colleagues 在背后使坏的同事(backstabbing 背后捅刀子 ) * unrealistic deadlines 不切实际的截止期限 * manages to find a way 设法找到办法 * I'm drawn to this show 我被这部剧吸引(“be drawn to” 固定短语,表 “被…… 吸引” ) * blessed with conventional good looks 有着传统意义上的美貌(be blessed with:有幸拥有 ) * burning desire 强烈的渴望 * has the will and the wits 有决心和智慧 * overcome obstacles 克服障碍 * sub-plots 次要情节;支线剧情 * feel more relatable 让人更有共鸣 * satirical take 讽刺性的呈现(take在此为名词:观点、呈现方式 ) * thought-provoking 发人深省的 * All in all 总而言之;总的来说 * a source of motivation 动力的源泉 * to boot 而且;除此之外 * story unfolds 故事展开;情节推进 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 顺便打个广告: 欢迎朋友们加入我的【知识星球】 里面有10万字的雅思口语书,内容梗概: (1) 78个Part 1话题语料 (2) 55个Part 3话题语料 (3) 40个Part 2话题语料 (4) 雅思口语高分tips (5) 雅思口语高分词汇表达 这本口语书是PDF的,放在了我的知识星球,星球里除了这本书,还有雅思听说读写、语法基础知识等内容。

Cat 🐱🐱🐱🐱 Which day is your favorite day of the week? Oh, undoubtedly Saturday. During the busy weekdays, I'm constantly rushing. I have to get up when my brain is still half-asleep to commute to work, and by the time I get home in the evenings, I'm exhausted. There's barely any time for relaxation. However, on Saturdays I can indulge in sleeping in, catching up on my sleep. It's a day when I have the freedom to unwind in my own way. I can take a breather and savor the simple pleasures, just like the saying "stop and smell the roses". It's a day that's all about relaxation and rejuvenating myself. * constantly rushing 忙得脚不沾地 * commute to work 去上班 * indulge in sleeping in 安心睡个懒觉 * unwind 放松 * take a breather 缓口气 * savor the simple pleasures 享受简单的小美好 * rejuvenating myself “回血” Which day is your least favorite day? Without a doubt, Monday is my least favourite day. After a blissful weekend, having to plunge back into work and start the week's grind is quite a challenge. It's difficult to snap back into work mode right away. Moreover, at work, Mondays are notorious for being filled with back-to-back meetings. After enjoying a laidback weekend, the prospect of facing these endless meetings, and dare I say, mindless, is far from appealing. It dampens my spirits and makes Monday the day I dread the most. * a blissful weekend 愉快的周末 * plauge back into work 一头扎回工作 * start the week's grind 开启一周的忙碌 * snap back into work mode 切换回工作模式 * notorious for 以……闻名(消极) * back-to-back meetings 开不完的会 * dampens my spirits 让我兴致全无 * dread the most 最害怕/最烦的一天 How do you usually spend your time on your favorite day? On Saturdays, I wake up naturally and then I whip up a simple breakfast and then make my way to the balcony. I let my cats out too, so they can soak up some fresh air as well. Then, I settle down with a book. As I sip my coffee, I relish the gentle breeze or the warm sunshine, depending on the weather. It's always such a peaceful moment. In the afternoons, I often take an extended stroll in the park that borders my neighborhood. For me, there's nothing more therapeutic and relaxing than immersing myself in nature on my favorite day. It's a perfect way to recharge my batteries. * whip up a simple breakfast 简单做个早餐 * soak up some fresh air 透透气 * relish the gentle breeze 感受微风 * take an extended stroll 散个长长的步 * therapeutic 治愈 * recharge my batteries 充电;“回血” Which day of the week is the least busy in your country? In general, I'd say it has to be Sunday. While many people still have to work on Saturdays, either every week or on an alternating basis, Sundays are widely regarded as a day of rest. Most folks have the day off, and it's a time when they can chill, catch up on sleep, spend quality time with family and friends, or engage in leisurely activities. It's a day when the hustle and bustle of the workweek takes a backseat, and relaxation takes center stage. * either every week or on an alternating basis 要么每周都上班,要么轮着上 * regarded as 被当作 * chill 放松 * catch up on sleep 补觉 * the hustle and bustle of 忙碌 * takes a backseat 退到次要位置 * takes center stage 是主角;站C位 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 顺便打个广告: 欢迎朋友们加入我的【知识星球】 里面有10万字的雅思口语书,内容梗概: (1) 78个Part 1话题语料 (2) 55个Part 3话题语料 (3) 40个Part 2话题语料 (4) 雅思口语高分tips (5) 雅思口语高分词汇表达 这本口语书是PDF的,放在了我的知识星球,星球里除了这本书,还有雅思听说读写、语法基础知识等内容。

Cat 🐱🐱🐱🐱 Describe a popular/well-known person in your country. You should say: Who the person is How you know this person What this person has done And explain why they are so popular The person I'd like to talk about is Li Ziqi, a renowned influencer hailing from Sichuan province. She has amassed a huge following, both domestically and overseas, by sharing videos of her idyllic rural life. I first became aware of her through mainstream news reports. The media was abuzz with stories about her unique content. Out of curiosity, I decided to follow her on both her WeChat public account and her video channel Li Ziqi's videos are a window into a seemingly timeless rural existence. What sets her work apart is the way she portrays everything in such a picturesque and idyllic manner. She seems like a jack of all trades. For instance, she constructed an oven in her backyard using mud. She grows all the fruits, vegetables, and even the rice she needs, demonstrating remarkable self-sufficiency. Not only that, she also crafts furniture, built her own dressing room, and sews some of her clothes. It's amazing to watch her transform raw materials into functional yet beautiful items. Throughout all this, she also attends to caring for her elderly grandmother, which adds a touching element of filial piety to her story. Her popularity can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, she’s beautiful, you could say she exudes the classically quintessential Chinese female charm, and not just her appearance, but her personality is equally charming. She even has a sense of humor and she is hard-working. Furthermore, the rural life she showcases in her videos strikes a chord with so many people. In a world often characterized by the ever-present urban hustle and bustle, her videos present an idealized picture of the countryside that many yearn for. The mountains in Sichuan, clear clean streams, blooming flowers, bountiful gardens, and thriving crops in her videos evoke a sense of tranquility and simplicity that is both refreshing and relaxing. It's no wonder she has become such a beloved figure, not just in China, but around the world.

Cat 🐱🐱🐱🐱 What apps have you recently used? Recently, I've been using a variety of apps that have become an integral part of my life, for instance, of course, WeChat is absolutely indispensable. It's a one-stop shop. I chat with friends and family on it, share moments, and even purchase air and train tickets, oh, and of course, making payments for anything and everything else too. Another one I've been using is Jianying, a video-editing app with different user-friendly interfaces and a plethora of features that allow for editing videos with relative ease. RedNote is another one I sometimes get a little addicted to. It's a platform where people share all kinds of interesting content and that’s why I sometimes find myself scrolling through it for hours on end. * an integral part of my life:我生活中不可或缺的一部分 * absolutely indispensible:绝对必不可少 * a one-stop shop:一站式平台 * purchase:购买 * making payments:付款;支付 * a video-editing app:一款视频剪辑app * user-friendly interfaces:用户友好的界面 * a plethora of:大量的 * with relative ease:相对轻松地 * get a little addicted to:有点沉迷于 * platform:平台 * interesting:有趣的 * content:内容 * scrolling through:浏览 * for hours on end:连续几个小时 What kinds of apps are you usually interested in? I'm generally interested in apps that are practical and informative. Apps that help me be productive, whether it's in shopping, video-editing, or accessing new information. Shopping apps like Taobao are great as they offer a vast range of products at my fingertips, saving me the hassle of going to brick-and-mortar stores. For entertainment, RedNote is one of my favorites. However, it can be a bit of a time-sink. Sometimes, I find myself spending far too much time scrolling through it, so I've resorted to deleting the app from my phone and only accessing it on my laptop. This way, I can still enjoy the content but have more control over my time. * practical:实用的 * informative:提供有用信息的 * productive:能提高效率的 * accessing new information:获取新信息 * a vast range of:各种各样的 * at my fingertips:近在手边 * saving me the hassle of:省去了…… 的麻烦 * brick-and-mortar stores:实体店 * a bit of a time-sink:有点耗费时间 * find myself spending too much time :发现自己花了太多时间 * scrolling through:浏览 * I've resorted to:采取…… 的办法 * have more control over my time:能更好地掌控自己的时间 [Image] How do you find out about different apps? I usually discover different apps through news and social media posts. For example, recently, there’s been a lot of buzz around a new app called DeepSeek. All the news outlets and social media platforms have been talking about it, so I naturally became curious and checked it out. Another way is through friends' recommendations. Just recently, a friend recommended an app that focuses on restaurants and places to go. It's been a game-changer for me because this app has got me discounts at restaurants and helped me discover some hidden gems in the city that I would have otherwise missed, for sure. * social media posts:社交媒体帖子 * a lot of buzz around:……很火 * news outlets:新闻媒体 * social media platforms:社媒平台 * naturally became curious:自然而然地感到好奇 * checked it out:了解了一下 * friends' recommendations:朋友的推荐 * a game-changer:带来重大变革的事物 * discover:发现 * hidden gems:隐藏的珍宝;(这里指)城市中不为人知的好去处、好地方 * would have otherwise missed :否则就会错过的 What kinds of apps would you like to use in the future? Oh wow, um, let me see, it’s a difficult question to answer right on the spot. But off the top of my head, I’d have to say an app that offers an extensive library of movies and TV shows without any ads. Ads can be annoying, especially when you're in the middle of a show. Having an app with millions of titles at my disposal, all ad-free, would be an amazing thing. Of course, the negative side, the inevitable, it would definitely tempt me to binge-watch my favorite shows or discover new movies without any interruptions. I think it’d be incredibly popular among all age ranges, all demographics without exception since we all value convenience and an uninterrupted viewing experience I believe. * right on the spot:当场;立即 * off the top of my head:即兴 * an extensive library of:一个庞大的……
