Peter Pan By James Barrie CHAPTER THREE:The Neverland Wendy,John and Michael fly over cities, towns, mountains, forests and seas. Finally, they see an island in the sea below them. 'Look, that's Neverland,' says Peter. 'Neverland!' say the children. In Neverland the Lost Boys live in the forest in a secret underground home. There are six Lost Boys: Slightly Soiled, Tootles, Nibs, Curly and the Twins. They are waiting for Peter. Suddenly they hear the voices of the pirates. Nibs is very brave. He goes out, hides behind a tree and looks around him. He sees the horrible pirates. They are walking in the forest. They are big and ugly. Their pirate ship is the Jolly Roger. The pirates' captain is James Hook. He is a cruel pirate and a very badman. He's got black eyes, black hair and a black beard. He hates Peter Pan. He's only got one arm. The other is a hook! In the past Peter Pan cut off Captain Hook's right arm during a fight. A crocodile ate the arm. Now the crocodile follows Captain Hook everywhere because he wants to eat him. The crocodile has an alarm clock in its stomach! Captain Hook can always hear it. 'I know the Lost Boys live in this forest. We must find them and Peter Pan!' says Captain Hook. 'Tick, tock, tick, tock!' Captain Hook hears the alarm clock. 'Oh,no, the crocodile is coming to eat me!' says Captain Hook. He runs away and the pirates follow him. Soon some Indians arrive in the forest. They are looking for the pirates. The pirates are their enemy. Tiger Lily is their leader. She is the beautiful daughter of the Indian chief. She loves Peter Pan. Tinker Bell and Wendy love him too. The Indians go away and the Lost Boys return to play in the forest. Then Nibs looks at the sky and says, 'Look, there is a lovely white bird in the sky.' 'Is it really a bird?' the Lost Boys ask. Tinker Bell says, 'Yes, yes, it's a bird. It's a Wendy bird. You must shoot it!' Sometimes Tink is a bad fairy. She knows it is Wendy, but she doesn't like her. Nibs takes his bow and arrow and shoots Wendy. Poor Wendy falls to the ground. The Lost Boys see Wendy and say, 'She's not a bird! She's a lovely girl.' Peter flies down with John and Michael and asks, 'Where is Wendy?' Tootles says, 'Here she is.' Peter goes over to her and asks, 'Wendy, are you all right?' Wendy slowly opens her eyes and smiles. 'Yes,but I'm very tired,' she says. The Lost Boys are sorry. They decide to build her a little house. When the house is ready Wendy says, 'What a lovely little house! Thank you.' 'Can you be our mother now? Can you tell us bedtime stories before we go to bed?'asks Nibs. 'Of course,' says Wendy. 'Come in and I can tell you the story of Cinderella.' They enter, sit down and listen to Wendy's story. It is a wonderful story. Peter Pan is outside the house with his sword. He wants to protect Wendy and the Lost Boys.

The Phantom of the Opera by Jennifer Basset 原文 Chapter 2: The directors of the Opera House The Opera House was famous, and the directors of the Opera House were very important men. It was the first week of work for the two new directors. Mr. Armand Moncharmin and Mr. Firmin Richard. In the director's office the next day, the two men talked about Joseph Buquet. "It was an accident," Mr. Armand said angrily. "Or Bouquet killed himself." "An accident? .…… killed himself?"Mr. Firmin said. "Which story do you want, my friend? Or do you want the story of the ghost?" "Don't talk tome about ghosts!" Mr. Arrmand said. "We have 1500 people working for us in this Opera House and everybody is talking about the ghost. They are all mad! I don't want to hear about the ghost. Okay? " Mr. Firmin looked at a letter on the table next to him. "And what are we going to do about this letter, Armand?". "Do?",cried Mr. Arrmand. "Why, do nothing,of course! What can we do?" The two men read the letter again. It wasn't very long. To the new directors.Because you are new in the Opera House, I am writing to tell you some important things. Never sell tickets for Box 5. That is my box for every Opera night. Madame Giry, the doorkeeper, knows all about it. Also, I need money for my work in the Opera House.I am not expensive, and I am happy to take only 20,000 francs a month. That is all. But please remember, I can be a good friend, but a bad enemy. OG. "Don't sell tickets for Box 5! 20,000 francs a month!"Mr. Armand was very angry again. "That's the best box in the Opera House, and we need the money, Firmin! And who is this O.G.,eh? Tell me that!" "Opera ghost,of course," Mr. Firmin said. "But you're right, Armand. We can do nothing about this letter. It's a joke, a bad joke. Somebody thinks we are fools, because we are new here. That are no ghosts in the Opera House!" The two men then talked about the opera for that night. It was Faust, and usually La Carlotta of sang Margarita. La Carlotta was Spanish, and the best singer in Paris. But today, La Carlotta was ill. "Everybody in Paris is going to be at the opera tonight," said Mr. Armand, "and our best singer is ill. Suddenly! She writes a letter to us just this morning, she is ill, she cannot sing tonight!" "Don't get angry again, Armand," Mr. Firmin said quickly. "We have Christine Daae, that young singer from Norway. She can sing Margarita tonight. She has a good voice." "But she's so young., and nobody knows her! Nobody wants to listen to a news singer." "Wait and see.Perhaps Daae can sing better than La Carlotta. Who knows?" 这个o.g.

It begins one day in 1880 in the dancer's dressing room. Chapter 1: The dancers "Quick, quick, close the door. It's him." Annie Sorelli ran into the dressing room, a face white. One of the girls ran and close the door. And then they all turned to Annie Sorelli. "Who? Where? What's the matter?" They cried. "It's the ghost" Annie said. "In the passage, I saw him. He came through the wall in front of me! And ... and I saw his face!" Most of the girls were afraid, but one of them, at all girl with black hair laughed. "Pooh!" she said. "Everybody says they see the Opera ghost, but there isn't really a ghost. You saw a shadow on the wall". But, she did not open the door or look into the passage. "Lots of people see him," a second girl said. "Joseph Buquet saw him two days ago. Don't you remember?" Then all the girls began to talk at once. "Joseph says the ghost is tall, and he wears a black evening coat". "He has the head of a dead man, with a yellow face and no nose.…." "... And no eyes - only black holes!". Then, little Meg Giry spoke for the first time. "Don't talk about him. He doesn't like it. My mother told me." "Your mother?" The girl with black hair said. "What does your mother know about the ghost?" "She says that Joseph Buquet is a fool. The ghost doesn't like people talking about him, and one day Joseph Buquet is going to be sorry, very sorry." "But what does your mother know? Tell us tell us" All the girls cried. "Oh dear!", said Meg. "But please don't say a word to anyone. You know my mother is the doorkeeper for some of the boxes in the Opera House. Well, Box 5 is the ghost's box!. He watches the Operas from that box, and sometimes he leaves flowers for my mother!" "The ghost has a box! And leaves flowers in it!" "Oh, Meg, your mother's telling you stories! How can the ghost have a box?" "It's true. It's true. I tell you!" Meg said. "Nobody buys tickets for box 5, but the ghost always comes to it on opera nights." "So somebody does come there?" "Why, no! the ghost comes, but there is nobody there." The dances looked at Meg. "But how does your mother know?" One of them asked. "There's no man in a black evening coat, with a yellow face. That's all wrong. My mother never sees the ghost in Box 5, but she hears him! He talks to her, but there is nobody there. And he doesn't like people talking about him!". But that evening, the dancers could not stop talking about the Opera ghost. They talked before the opera, all through the opera, and after the opera. But they talked very quietly, and they looked behind them before they spoke. When the opera finished, the girls went back to their dressing room. Suddenly, they heard somebody in the passage, and Madame Giry, Meg's mother, ran into the room. She was a fat, motherly woman, with a red happy face. But tonight, face was white. "Oh, girls," she cried. "Joseph Buquet is dead! You know he works a long way down, on the fourth floor under the stage. The other stage workers found his dead body there an hour ago, with a rope around his neck!". "It's the ghost!" cried Meg Giry."The ghost killed him!".

Tom!" There was no answer. "Where is that boy? Tom!" Aunt Polly looked under the bed but she only found the cat. "Tom!"she cried. Then she heard a noise behind her. A small boy ran past and she stopped him with her hand. "What are you doing, Tom?" she asked. "Nothing." "Nothing.Look at your hand and your mouth. I told you not to eat the jam." "Oh,Aunt Polly, look behind you!" The old lady looked and Tom ran away. Aunt Polly was surprised and then she laughed. "I never learn. Tom always plays tricks on me and I never learn. I love Tom. He's my sister's child - she's dead. But it's not easy to look after him. Tomorrow is Saturday and there's no school. But Tom must work tomorrow. He hates work but he must do it." Tom lived in the small village of St Petersburg with his Aunt Polly, his brother Sid and his sister Mary. The summer evenings were long, and in the evenings Tom liked walking around the village. One evening he saw a big boy in front of him. The boy was a stranger. Tom was surprised because he did not see new people often. This boy had very nice, expensive clothes. "He's got shoes, a new shirt and a tie. And it's not Sunday," Tom thought."My clothes are old and ugly." Tom looked at him and the big boy looked at Tom. Tom did not like him. Finally he said, "I can beat you!" "Why don't you try?" said the boy. "Well,I can," said Tom. "No,you can't." "Yes,I can." There was silence. "You're afraid," said the boy. "I'm not afraid," said Tom. "Yes,you are." "No,I'm not." There was more silence. Then Tom pushed the boy and the boy pushed Tom. Soon they were on the ground. Tom pulled the boy's hair and hit him hard. They both fought a lot. The big boy was angry and started crying. "Stop," he said, "Stop!" "Now,that will teach you something," said Tom. Tom arrived home late and he was very dirty. When Aunt Polly saw his dirty clothes, she thought, "What can I do with this boy? Well, tomorrow is Saturday, and he must work." Saturday morning was beautiful and sunny. It was summer and the world was happy. Tom sat in front of the fence and looked at it. It was thirty yards long and nine feet high. He was very unhappy. "It's Saturday and I must paint this long fence. All my friends will laugh at me," he thought. He put his long brush in the white paint and started painting. He stopped and looked at his work. Then he continued painting. After a few minutes he had a great idea. He continued painting the fence. He saw his friend Ben Rogers in the street. Ben had an apple in his hand. He came to look at the fence. "You'reworking for your aunt," said Ben. Tom said nothing. He continued painting. "I'm going swimming but you can't come with me. You're working," said Ben. "Do you call this work?" asked Tom. "Of course it's work. You're painting a fence, "said Ben. "Maybe it's work but maybe it isn't. I like it!" said Tom, "I can swim everyday, but I can't paint a fence every day." Ben watched Tom. He painted slowly and carefully. He often stopped and moved back from the fence. He looked at his work and smiled. Ben was suddenly interested in the fence and said, "Let me paint a little,Tom." Tom thought for a moment. "I'm sorry, Ben. Aunt Polly wants me to do it because I'm very good at painting. My brother Sid wanted to do it, but he's not good at painting." "Oh,please, Tom! Please can I paint? I'm good at painting too. Here, you can have some of my apple." "No, Ben, I can't -" "Then take all of my apple!" Tom was happy but he did not smile. He gave Ben the brush and sat down to eat the apple. Tom's other friends came by. At first they laughed at him. But soon they all wanted to paint the fence. Billy Fisher gave Tom a kite and Johnny Miller brought him a dead rat. His other friends gave him an old knife, a cat with one eye, an old blue bottle, an old key and other interesting things. His friends painted the fence and Tom now had a lot of interesting things. He went back home. "Aunt Polly, can I go to play now?" When Aunt Polly saw the beautiful white fence she was very happy. She gave Tom a big apple and said, "Yes, go and play! But don't come home late!"
