Petr Horáček is a renowned author and illustrator for children’s books. He was born in Czechoslovakia and went to England in his twenties. Now he lives in Worcester with his family. Petr has recently been nominated for Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustration for his latest picture book The Perfect Present. In the past 22 years, Petr has published over 60 picture books and board books. His beautiful books are always filled with glowing colors, exuberant artwork, lovable characters, and winsome stories, which appeal to young readers and adults alike. His first board books Strawberries Are Red and What Is Black and White? have won him the Books for Children Newcomer Award in 2001. These two books are still in print and popular among many countries. Felicita was born in Rome but grew up in Perth, Australia. She graduated with Honours in Philosophy from the University of Western Australia. She moved back to Italy in 2007, where she taught herself illustration and very slowly started making picture books. Over the years, she collaborated on various papercut animations with her husband, animator Gianluca Maruotti. She now works as a full-time illustrator. In this episode, we mainly focused on discussing her two authored recipe books Lunch at 10 Pomegranate Street and A Year in Fleurville, written at the end of lockdown), as well as her favourite story illustrated by herself -- The Hideout. Marc Martin is an award-winning artist and picture book author and illustrator based in Melbourne, Australia. Having trained and worked as a graphic designer, his moonlighting as an illustrator eventually led him to a successful freelance career. Marc draws inspiration from his surroundings, nature, animals, and the city he lives in. His book A River was awarded a Best Illustrated Picture Book by the New York Times in 2017. The art in Marc's books fills both the eyes and minds of big and little readers. Morag Hood is a Scottish writer and illustrator of children's books. Her primary medium is lino printing, although she uses a variety of techniques in her work.Her stories rely on interplay between text and illustration, creating space in the narrative for young readers to fill in. Many of her stories concern relationships, inclusion and prejudice. She has an MA in children's book illustration from the Cambridge School of Art. Hood was the winner of the UKLA book awards in the 3–6 category in 2018, for Colin and Lee, Carrot and Pea, and in 2019 for I am Bat. Micha Archer wrote and illustrated Ezra Jack Keats Award winner Daniel Finds a Poem and its companion,Daniel’s Good Day, and has also illustrated several picture books, includingGirl Running(by Annette Bay Pimentel). Micha works in oil and collage on paper she creates with homemade stamps and layered tissue paper. She came from a long line of artists and teachers and taught for many years in a kindergarten. Raising two kids and teaching are where she cultivated her love for picture books and realized their importance as teaching tools.
