His titles with Jon Scieszka include the Caldecott Honor winner The Stinky Cheese Man and The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, both ranked among the 100 best all-time picture books by TIME magazine. Lane’s books have been New York Times Best Illustrated Books on five occasions. Zeno Sworder is an author and illustrator from Melbourn, Australia. His debut picture book This Small Blue Dot follows a little girl welcoming her newly born sibling to earth. It is book celebrating diversity, imagination and interconnectedness. Amy Alznauer is a polymath: she is a writer, a managing editor, and an instructor of calculus and number theory at Northwestern University. Amy's most recent work is in children's picture-book biographies, work which has been awarded with the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Illinois Chapter Laura Crawford Memorial Mentorship. Aaron Becker is the author and illustrator for the 2014 Caldecott Honor Book called "Journey". The book almost reads like an animated movie and you won't be surprised to learn that Aaron has a filmmaking background. Jackie Morris is a British writer and illustrator. She was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2016 and won it in 2019 for her illustration of The Lost Words. She collaborated with writer Robert Macfarlane to create The Lost Words in response to the removal of everyday nature words from the Oxford Junior Dictionary, such as bluebell, otter, dandelion. Alison Farrell is a children's picture book author and illustrator based in Portland, Oregon. Before she became a picture book maker, Alison worked on farms and taught art in K-12 schools. Her works include The Hike, Cycle City and Bicycle Bash. Based on the titles of the books, you probably won't be surprised to learn that Alison loves hiking and biking. Simona Ciraolo who is a Sardinian-born picture book author and illustrator. Her works focus on the relationships between people and the emotional experience of being human but always with a heartwarming portrayal. In this episode, I talked to her about her two books, one of which is Shy Ones, which is about a shy flapjack octopus who spots another shy fish in the room. Oge grew up in Columbus, Ohio but resides in Providence, RI. She is a fan of all things colorful, patterned, or collaged, and enjoys creating warm stories that celebrate people coming together. Her debut picture book, Thank You, Omu!, which grew out of a class assignment when she was stuyding in Rhode Island School of Design, won the 2019 Caldecott Honor, Coretta Scott King John Steptoe Award, and Ezra Jack Keats Book Award. Her second book, Saturday won the 2020 Boston Globe—Horn Book Picture Book Award. Oge’s artwork has been applauded by The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Boston Globe. She also recently made the Forbes 30 Under 30 2021 list in Arts & Style.
