Beginning in the early 1990s, after China lifted restrictions on international adoptions, a wave of American families adopted Chinese children, primarily girls. According to the U.S. State Department, over 20,000 children were adopted at that time, including Amy DeCillis. Growing up in a white American middle-class family, Amy didn't have much of a connection with Chinese culture, except for her Chinese class. Then a high school exchange program to Beijing started to bring her life path closer to China. In this episode, you'll hear the story of Amy DeCillis, her journey back to her roots, and her thoughts on living between Eastern and Western culture.

Nihao, people! This is "你觉得呢WhatDoUThink" podcast. We already have a Chinese version of this podcast in which we talk about everything around Chinese millennial life. In our new English series, we will go beyond that, and using our great power of roasting to judge non-Asian culture and Asian culture sometimes.

If you'd like to hear more, please subscribe to 你觉得呢WhatDoUThink. You can find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. Oh, and what do you think? Let us know at [email protected]
