U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday a 25 percent tax on imports from Japan and South Korea, along with new tariff rates on a dozen other nations that would take effect on August 1. In letters on Truth Social addressed to leaders of the various countries, Trump warned them against raising their own import taxes, or the U.S. would again hike tariffs.
