AEE 2318: Are You Close with Your Family? do you come from a tight-knit family ? 1. tight-knit means to be close with someone, usually about a group, at least 3people. adj. 紧密的 亲密的 use to talk about relationships, share informations about others with our relationship, our backgrounds, like your family, community, friendship that comes to mind. tips : tight-knit only reserve to people you're very very close to, like a family. eg, i come from a really tight-knit family, so it was important for me to find a partner who thinks family is the number one priority. i live in a very tight-knit community, it's great beacuse people always there to help each other , like the babysitting, it's the best. 2. neighborly adj. 睦邻的;友好的;邻居似的 eg, everyone i met is extreamly neighborly, I'm excited to be the community. 3. inseparable, you're always together, much more intense, usually for 2people or a family or a team. adj. (人)形影不离的;(东西)分不开的 n. 不能分开的人(或事物) eg, my friend from school and i are inseparable, we are together all the time. 4. devoted, more about a family or a partner. adj. 挚爱的,忠诚的;热衷的;专用于……的 v. 献身,致力;用于(devote 的过去式和过去分词形式) eg, we are so devoted to each other, very close. actually you can be a devoted parents. 5. loving, don't use it to a neighbor but family . adj. 亲爱的;钟情的;忠诚的 eg, he come from a loving family. Role Play : talking about upbringing 教养 养育,how we grew up. i had an extreamly tight-knit neighborhood growing up, the kids in the neighborhood were all inseparable. that must been fun, my community was very neighborly, but not necessarily that close. but my family was very devoted. same, my parents are very loving.

1. tight -knit = to be close with someone. It's suitable for family, community, any group of friends, even though your office mates Ex: I'm really tight- knit with my co-workers. Ex: I come from a really tight-knit family. Ex: I live in a very tight-knit community It's great, because people are always there to help each out, like baby-sitting. 2. neighborly Ex: Everyone I've met is extremely neighborly. I'm excited to be in this community.

3. inseperable(much more intense) = You are always together. Ex: My friends from school and I are inseperable. We r together all the time.(tight-kint can be replaced.) Tips: "Tight- kint" is usually for a group of people "close" is two person. Ex: We r close. "inseperable" could be for a team or a family. 4. devoted(for family or partner) Ex: We are so devoted to each other. Tips: devoted parents or romantic partners. 5. loving(a little emotional, usually not for neighbors) Ex: She comes from a very lovely family. Tips: just an ajd, a loving family/ a happy family. Role Play A: I had an extremely tight-kint neighborhood growing up. The kids in the neighborhood were all inseperable. B: That must be in fun. My community was very neighborly, but not necessarily that close. My family was very devoted. A: Same, my parents are very loving.
