Dear Professor Leichman-Weinstein,
Sorry for having to write this letter, but I’m afraid a family matter has cropped up, and quite suddenly I must say. My sister has become engaged to a Spanish gentleman, and have, due to a host of factors, decided for June to get married, in Spain no less. The wedding occurs smack in the middle of the week that has been scheduled for my thesis presentation. Owing to such an unforeseen, yet joyous occasion suddenly popping up, I would like to request an office meeting with you to see if it is possible to reschedule my presentation.

I understand the unorthodoxy of this request. I do hope, however, that the department panel and yourself can afford me the opportunity to present in a different week, either before or after the presently scheduled week of my presentation. I have been an A-student in all projects and passionately conscientious throughout my study and so I hope this can be taken into consideration.

I would be most appreciative if you could find the time to squeeze me in to your office-hour time to discuss the matter further.
