I have spent most of my life studying and admiring the works of Johannes Sebastian Bach.
"For me, the greatest composer who ever lived. His music appealed to me more than any other composer because of its structure, fulness and creativeness. During Bach's era it was quite usual for composers to improvise on other composers' works.
When I had the idea of "Play Bach", it was really to carry on this tradition. In addition to classical music I was, from an early period, also interested in other music: The Modern Jazz Quartet for instance.
John Lewis, its leading musician, taught me there was another form of interpretation. His musical arrangements were a revelation for me.
