Mang Zhong, Grain in Ear is the 9th solar term and the third one in summer, marking the official start of midsummer. This is a busy season for farmers. Crops that ripen in summer are fully grown and ready to harvest. Meanwhile, it is also the perfect time to sow late rice and other summer grains. Harvesting and sowing happen side by side here. In southern farmlands, farmers bend down to transplant rice seedlings, sowing hopes for the whole summer. On northern fields, people cut ripe wheat and gather the fruits of their work. The land turns a new page, from reaping old crops to nurturing new growth. Its name in Chinese sounds the same as "busy planting", and it is truly a solar term closely linked with farm work, full of everyday life and the spirit of hard work.
