Federal Reserve Cuts Interest Rates by 50 Basis Points, Starting a Rate-Cut Cycle

The Federal Reserve announced a 50-basis point cut in the federal funds rate to a range of 4.75%-5.00%, marking the first rate cut since March 2020.

The Fed stated that inflation has made further progress toward the 2% target, but remains slightly high.

The rate cut decision was passed by an 11-1 vote, with Governor Bowman opposing and suggesting a 25-basis point cut.
