Hot water. 热水 And cold water. 冷的水 But in UK, they have so many types. So, when I traveled in Indonesia, I went to the toilet. You know what I found there? 【转录2/6】 我当时吓了一跳，但是又很爽。然后后来我回国之后，我就发现确实挺好用的。于是我现在也爱上那个功能，现在也用那个马桶，就是那个智能马桶上面那个功能，然后平时就用来洗一下。 其实我自己是没有用过。你这个也是一个蛮大的一个 culture shock，我想。但是我这个culture shock 不是来自于我出国，跟马桶里那个水管也是有一点关系，就是我在家里被我妈给 shock 到了。 怎么样？ 就是她有一段时间她去出国玩，玩完回来就在家的马桶旁边安装了一个水管。当时回到家我就觉得好奇，后来才发现跟你说那个功能是一样的，就因为那时候还没有智能马桶，然后她就自己给自己安装了一个，然后跟我说那个非常好用。 所以就是出国那次经历，然后打开了她的新世界，是不是？ 对啊，然后回家就 shock 我了。 So Wing, what about your experience when, you know, about the culture shock? Well, so English is not that universal. When I went to Italy, I think, I found a very nice, something like Airbnb place, so I rent a room there. So I thought, well, my English is good enough, so I can talk to anyone, anytime and anywhere. However, when I got there, I found out the owner of that place couldn't speak any English, like zero, zero, zero English. So how did you communicate with her? Actually, it's he. Okay. 就是手语。就是世界通用的语言。就用手脚并用的一起比划。那个绝对是通用的。 在那个场合，就是一个意大利一个小城镇里面，就完全不会说英语。他们并不是说只会说意大利语，他们会说很多种欧洲的小语种，只是英语并不是其中一种。所以当时就只能通过指手画脚的去跟他沟通，虽然对方也是很 nice，非常非常友好的，只是这个沟通也是蛮印象深刻的。你知道我当时要找他拿 hot water。 那你怎么样表示这个 hot water？ 一般人就说我手机有网络，我就以搜一下，我就问一下他，对吧？可惜那里网络不好。 所以呢，当时我跟我的小伙伴们，我们就一起在那里指手画脚的模仿那个水的声音，就是比划喝水那个动作，就模仿那个泡泡在你身上来，他最后也是听得懂。他竟然听懂了！ 对啊，我们比划了蛮久的，反正他听得懂，所以也是一个蛮有趣的 culture shock 吧。 English is not universal, not as universal as we think. I totally agree with you. You know, actually in daily life, we may come across culture shock when we go to a new place, like you when you went to Italy, right? And because sometimes one culture isn't compatible with another. Do you agree with that? Of course. That's why we have the word international. True. And you know, it also happens when some Chinese IP goes overseas. Interesting. Yeah, I know you really like science fiction. Have you ever watched Three Body Problems written by Liu Cixin? I heard of it. I haven't read the books or watched the movies yet.

In that case, I think Kung Fu Panda is good. 因为功夫熊貓是一个动画片，所以它其实编剧跟导演有很多奇奇怪怪的想法，其实都可以通过动物来表达，就没有了那种需要真人的真实性的这一个限制吧，所以我觉得可能我猜，也就为什么这个电影算是中国出海，中国文化在海外比较成功的一个例子，你觉得呢？ 是，最重要就是因为熊猫还有功夫的话，它都是有非常强烈的一个象征性，就是大家一看到它的话，大家就会想到我们中国，而且它真的是拍得非常的成功，然后那个电影的话，它其实不只是针对小朋友，我们很多时候有个惯性思维，觉得只有小朋友才看动画片，但是事实上那个动画片的话，就是老少皆宜，二次元，对，所以的话，我觉得它成功的话是有它的道理，然后其实最重要的是，Dreams Work，它的那个 studio，Treatment of Chinese culture Landscape and architecture is awesome，它对待我们的中国文化，或者是我们中国的风景也好，建筑也好的话，它都是非常还原，而且没有任何的一种丑化的一个行为嘛 And most importantly Kung Fu Panda has also motivated us 我们的中国的一个动画行业，To improve its animation industry In the hope of extendingour soft power To other regions of the globe 就是要加强我们的那个软实力，对文化输出，So that's why Kung Fu Panda Has made a huge success all over the world.

【转录6/6】 那其实最重要的就是，我们如果中国的IP要出海的话，其实我觉得是一个非常让人，欣慰的一件事情，对吧，它其实也是代表我们实力越来越强大，但是我觉得也不能说魔改，就是像那个三体那样子，它之所以受到这么多的批评，其实就是因为它有一些设定的话，譬如说它角色设定啊，或者是其他一些设定的话，就改动比较大，所以让大家会有一些差评。 我觉得挺有趣的，就是中国IP 出海，包括我们引进国外的IP，其实都挺多翻车的，别说远的，不要说欧美西方的IP改成，是我们国内的版，我们就说一些近一点的，像把韩剧啊日剧啊，引进进来，然后改编成中国版的时候呢，其实也会挺多翻车的，尽管我们离得比较近，但其实我们的文化还是有差异的，是如果照搬的时候，就会发生挺多笑话，挺多不合理的地方， Yes, so I think we should really appreciate and respect diverse cultures, and then, so that we can learn from other cultures and improve. 就是多元文化让我们世界更多好玩的一些东西，是的。 Ok, after some gossips about this movie, let's talk about something serious. Based on what you describe about this book and based on what we discussed just now, which is a book becomes a movie. So any questions about that in IELTS too? Yes, there is a question. If a movie is based on a book, would you prefer to read the book or to watch the film? And why? This is the exact question in IELTS part 3.
