爵士音乐的一代宗师，Miles Davis一生锐意创新，留下了很多经典的录音。

1956 年，为了顺利加盟哥伦比亚唱片公司，Miles Davis 拉上几个老哥们，日夜赶工，完成了跟Prestige 剩下的唱片合约。这套专辑录制于 1956年5月11日和10月26日。Miles Davis五重奏租用了录音大师 Rudy Van Gelder 的录音棚，在短短的两天时间里完成了3个多小时高质量的演奏录音。

谁有会想到，这套“急就章”的专辑却成为了爵士史上的经典录音之一。紧张的时间安排反而激发了几位大师强大的即兴创造力，这套4张的“with the Miles Davis Quintet” 系列专辑被奉为hard bop时代的巅峰之作。
