Hi there, good evening! Today is Tuesday, September 8, 2026. I’m An An, your host from Goodnight Coffee. After a busy day, welcome to your cozy little corner to unwind. Tonight, I’d like to share a few fascinating stories from the worlds of business and tech, and take a relaxed look at what’s happening around the globe. Ready? Let’s ease into it together! @@@ According to CNBC, TSMC and Samsung Electronics have both committed to adopting ASML’s latest generation of high-NA extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment, a move that comes as surging demand for AI applications continues to drive advanced-process chip production. Both companies have confirmed investment plans to purchase and roll out this new equipment. The next-generation lithography system is among the most advanced chipmaking tools in the world today, with a hefty price tag per unit, and is primarily aimed at high-precision mass production for process nodes of 3 nanometers and below. Compared to its predecessor, it delivers improved optical accuracy and imaging performance, helping to shrink chip sizes and enhance energy efficiency. TSMC has included the high-NA EUV production tool in its future deployment roadmap, while Samsung is also arranging for the introduction of corresponding machines in its foundry business. As the two companies have long been ASML’s most important customers, their consecutive commitments have further expanded the order book for this latest model. ASML has noted that the infrastructure needed to support training and testing for the equipment is gradually being put in place, and it will continue to ramp up related capacity in line with customer deployments. Meanwhile, wafer fabs around the world are accelerating their advanced-process roadmaps, and the ever-heating computing chip market is placing greater demands on manufacturing equipment and process development timelines. Deliveries and installations of the relevant tools are expected to be concentrated across multiple production sites over the coming years, making this fresh wave of equipment investment a key focus for the semiconductor industry. @@@ According to 36Kr, on September 8, 2026, OpenAI unveiled a new generation feature that lets users simply type a natural-language prompt, and the system instantly builds a fully functional web application — a development widely seen as a direct challenge to the traditional SaaS software delivery model. Specifically, the feature is deeply integrated into the large model’s multimodal generation framework, automatically turning vague product descriptions into production-ready apps that include front-end interfaces, back-end logic, and data storage. Under the hood, it connects a code interpreter with a real-time sandbox environment, enabling instant preview and one-click deployment after generation. In a live demo, a team collaboration tool featuring user registration, permission management, and payment APIs was generated in just thirty seconds. The feature also supports voice-command modifications to existing web pages, allowing users to adjust layouts, interaction flows, or data fields through continuous dialogue. OpenAI says the system is now capable of parsing complex business processes, compressing requirement analysis and architecture setup that traditionally take weeks into just minutes. It’s understood that the feature will first open testing to enterprise API users, and then gradually integrate into major collaboration platforms. At that point, small and medium-sized teams will be able to quickly generate internal tools tailored to their own workflows on demand, without relying on subscribing to multiple SaaS products. Following the announcement, shares of several publicly traded SaaS companies whose core business relies on standardized subscriptions experienced varying degrees of decline that day. @@@ According to 36Kr, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has handed over his personal Microsoft account to Grok Bot, developed by Elon Musk’s company xAI. Under this arrangement, while Nadella is asleep, Grok Bot automatically handles his work-related matters using his identity. Specific functions include auto-replying to emails, organizing daily workflows, and generating code. The social media company behind the product originally aimed to transform what was considered an entertainment-oriented AI assistant into a productivity tool that can genuinely handle real office tasks. Notably, Grok’s underlying model is trained on a dataset containing 36 billion bytes of data, allowing it to simulate a user’s writing style and decision-making habits. This also pushes the depth of AI involvement beyond previous boundaries — evolving from an assistive tool that waits for human input to execute tasks into an agent that can, to some degree, make autonomous decisions. This model has sparked further imagination about how work could change, and signals that the relationship between humans and AI in the workplace is entering a new phase. For everyday users, this means that in the future, AI could be tasked with handling routine or repetitive work, leaving humans to focus on more important matters. Grok Bot already possesses the practical ability to take over an account and carry out daily tasks, and the details of its takeover of the Microsoft account were subsequently confirmed and publicized by Nadella himself. @@@ According to Readhub’s September 8 report, ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming is personally overseeing a new AI model research project, as the company plans to launch a real-time spatial video generation model. The news has sparked widespread industry interest in the next generation of video generation technology. Previously, mainstream video generation models in the industry have largely focused on generating 2D image content. ByteDance’s latest exploration, however, aims to break through the limitations of flat imagery, enabling video generation to understand and simulate three-dimensional spatial structures. It’s reported that when generating video, the model not only recreates the appearance and motion of objects, but also processes spatial perspective relationships, depth-of-field layers, and the sense of distance between objects in real time, resulting in footage with dynamic spatial characteristics. This means that what users get from a text or image description will no longer be a simple flat moving image, but video content that reflects changes in spatial depth. Zhang Yiming’s hands-on oversight of this technical direction also reflects the strategic value senior leadership places on the project. For the technology to truly land, breakthroughs are still needed in areas such as computing power consumption, real-time rendering speed, and the collection of training data. At present, ByteDance has not yet announced a specific release timeline or application scenarios for the model. @@@ According to Readhub, Nvidia plans to invest three billion U.S. dollars in Thinking Machines Lab, an AI company founded by former OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati. If this round of investment goes through, the company’s valuation is expected to surpass ten billion dollars. Thinking Machines Lab was officially founded by Murati earlier this year, focusing on frontier areas such as AI safety, interpretability, and human-machine collaboration, with the goal of building a more transparent technical system along the path to artificial general intelligence. Since its founding, the company has attracted a large number of researchers from top institutions such as OpenAI and Google DeepMind. The team currently numbers around sixty people, most of whom have been deeply involved in the development of frontier large models. It’s understood that Thinking Machines Lab is also simultaneously building commercial products and API platforms for enterprises and developers, helping bring research outcomes into real-world applications. The funds Nvidia intends to invest will primarily be used to expand the R&D team and build independent computing infrastructure to support larger-scale model training and safety experiments. As of now, neither Nvidia nor Thinking Machines Lab has publicly responded to the specific terms of this investment, and the deal still awaits regulatory approval. @@@ According to the Nikkei, Huawei officially launched its new-generation foldable flagship, the Mate XT2, on September 8 this year. The device’s biggest highlight is that it is powered by a core chip developed entirely in-house by Huawei, marking a critical step in the company’s journey toward semiconductor supply chain self-sufficiency. Japanese media commented that the fully self-developed core chip solution in the Mate XT2 has already allowed Huawei to shake off its reliance on overseas technologies at the hardware level, effectively breaking through the previous U.S. export controls. The report noted that the chip has achieved a closed-loop localization, from architecture design to manufacturing process, reflecting how China’s semiconductor industry has entered a stage of turning technical accumulation into tangible results under extreme external pressure. At the launch event, Huawei emphasized that the Mate XT2’s chip performance and energy efficiency have reached industry-leading levels, especially with significant improvements in AI computing power and image signal processing. At the same time, the new handset retains the previous generation’s tri-fold design, with further optimizations in thinness and hinge reliability, and also upgrades its satellite communication capabilities. Market analysts believe that Huawei’s decision to launch a flagship model with fully self-developed chips at this time is both a test of its supply chain resilience and a foundation for the future iteration of its high-end product line. Previously, Huawei had been gradually reducing its reliance on third-party chips through multiple models, and the release of the Mate XT2 is now being viewed by outsiders as a concentrated display of its independent R&D capabilities. @@@ According to cnBeta this month, Volkswagen is considering selling its premium motorcycle manufacturer Ducati. This potential sale is part of a broader evaluation by the Volkswagen Group of its business portfolio. Ducati was formally acquired by Volkswagen’s Audi division in 2012 and has long enjoyed a strong reputation in its market segment thanks to its high-performance sport motorcycles. People familiar with the matter say Volkswagen has held preliminary discussions about the sale, with possible transaction structures including a direct sale or partial stake transfer, and the overall valuation is expected to reach several billion euros. However, the deliberations are still at an early stage, and the Volkswagen Group has not yet made a final decision on any specific plan. The backdrop to this move is closely tied to the global auto industry’s transition toward electrification and intelligent driving, as traditional automakers reassess non-core assets to concentrate resources on strategic investments. Volkswagen has previously optimized its brand architecture through multiple capital market moves, freeing up funds for R&D in key areas. As one of the iconic brands in the motorcycle world, Ducati’s unique position in the sport biking market has drawn widespread industry attention to this potential deal. @@@ Alright, that’s all for today’s show! Thank you so much for joining me tonight. I hope this little bit of warmth carries you gently into sleep. If you enjoy our podcast, you’re very welcome to subscribe and share it with your friends — it really helps us a lot. Until next time, take care!
