Using past progressive correctly in English
✏️main time of using past progressive is for simultaneous and interruptive actions.
Ex: While I was making dinner, I helped my daughter with her homework.(simultaneous actions)
👏The other action's tense also could be past progressive, if you are talking about specific point and time's happening.
1️⃣When/While I was doing sth, something else happened.
Ex: When I was eating breakfast, I spoiled my orange juice.
☝"When…,"is an adverb clause,
☝"I…"is an independent clause, which can stand alone.
Ex: When I was fixing the car, she handed me tools and kept me company.
👏comma is necessary when the adverb clause goes before the independent clause, because of which acts as an introductary element.
2️⃣Something was done, when/ while something was happening.
Ex: You called me when I was shopping.
Ex: He got home while I was making dinner.
Role Play:
A: Where were you last week?
B: I went to the beach. It was amazing!
A: What? I was stuck in the class, and you were playing at the beach.
B: I' m sorry, actually can I get your notes?
A: Seriously, I owe you one. When I was hanging out on the sand, I thought I hope Lyndsay was taking notes, so I can get them from her.
