Being a part of the LGBTQ community in China may come with its own set of legal and social challenges that are not experienced by non-LGBT residents. However, these challenges do not mean there is no space for this community in China. In this episode, we are joined by a special guest, Elaine Poon, an Asian American who identifies as part of the LGBTQ community and has been living in China for the past 7 years.
Elaine had a positive experience being part of this community in China and debunks the negative ideas about how the gay community is accepted in China from a western perspective. Elaine shares with us her unique stories and insights on what it is like to be gay in China, and how the LGBTQ community is making strides in the country. She also provides advice for those who are looking for that community in China and how they can navigate the challenges.
